nifi-external NIFI-8380: Allow for an extensions.directory property to specify where to place downloaded files. Also fixed an issue that was encountered, when a Source Processor is scheduled for Primary Node Only but more than 1 task is set. In that case, even though only a single task will should be scheduled, an Exception was getting thrown because @OnScheduled methods of Processors were still called. To avoid this, moved the initialization of the dataflow outside of the creation of the dataflow so that initialization can be triggered only when appropriate. 2021-04-07 13:28:12 +02:00
nifi-framework-api NIFI-8353: When receiving data via load-balanced connection, throw an Exception (resulting in an ABORT_TRANSACTION status code) when attempting to add received FlowFiles to the FlowFile queue, if the node is not currently connected to cluster. In this case, ensure that we remove the received FlowFiles from the FlowFile Repository and emit a DROP event to the repository (with appropriate details) to coincide with the already-committed Provenance events. Also ensure that when a node is disconnected that we don't keep sending to that node until it reconnects. While testing the fixes via LoadBalancedQueueIT, also noticed that unit test logging was not working properly in nifi-framework-core because of the (erroneous) dependency on logback-class; removed this dependency and updated unit tests that were created that depended on its existence. Apache NiFi is an easy to use, powerful, and reliable system to process and distribute data.

Requirements

  • JDK 1.8 (ongoing work to enable NiFi to run on Java 9/10/11; see NIFI-5174)
  • Apache Maven 3.1.1 or newer
  • Git Client (used during build process by 'bower' plugin)

Getting Started

  • Read through the quickstart guide for development. It will include information on getting a local copy of the source, give pointers on issue tracking, and provide some warnings about common problems with development environments.
  • For a more comprehensive guide to development and information about contributing to the project read through the NiFi Developer's Guide.

To build:

  • Execute mvn clean install or for parallel build execute mvn -T 2.0C clean install. On a modest development laptop that is a couple of years old, the latter build takes a bit under ten minutes. After a large amount of output you should eventually see a success message.

  • Execute mvn clean install -DskipTests to compile tests, but skip running them.

To deploy:

  • Change directory to 'nifi-assembly'. In the target directory, there should be a build of nifi.

  • For testing ongoing development you could use the already unpacked build present in the directory named "nifi-version-bin", where version is the current project version. To deploy in another location make use of either the tarball or zipfile and unpack them wherever you like. The distribution will be within a common parent directory named for the version.

To run NiFi:

  • Change directory to the location where you installed NiFi and run it.

      laptop:~ myuser$ cd ~/example-nifi-deploy/nifi-*
      laptop:nifi-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT myuser$ ./bin/nifi.sh start
    

    Issuing bin/nifi.sh start executes the nifi.sh script that starts NiFi in the background and then exits. If you want nifi.sh to wait for NiFi to finish scheduling all components before exiting, use the --wait-for-init flag with an optional timeout specified in seconds.

      laptop:nifi-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT myuser$ ./bin/nifi.sh start --wait-for-init 120 
    
  • Direct your browser to http://localhost:8080/nifi/ and you should see a screen like this screenshot: image of a NiFi dataflow canvas

  • If you are testing ongoing development, you will likely want to stop your instance.
