The #pluck_first freedom patch, first introduced by @danielwaterworth has served us well, and is used widely throughout both core and plugins. It seems to have been a common enough use case that Rails 6 introduced it's own method #pick with the exact same implementation. This allows us to retire the freedom patch and switch over to the built-in ActiveRecord method.
There is no replacement for #pluck_first!, but a quick search shows we are using this in a very limited capacity, and in some cases incorrectly (by assuming a nil return rather than an exception), which can quite easily be replaced with #pick plus some extra handling.
If a topic is converted to a private message, all posters were invited
to the new private message. This included users who only whispered or
posted small actions.
Breakdown of fixes in this commit:
* `UserStat#topic_count` was not updated when visibility of
the topic changed.
* `UserStat#post_count` was not updated when post was hidden or
unhidden.
* `TopicConverter` was only incrementing or decrementing the counts by 1
even if a user has multiple posts in the topic.
* The commit turns off the verbose logging by default as it is just
noise to normal users who are not debugging this problem.
Ensures that `UserStat#post_count` and `UserStat#topic_count` does not
go below 0. When it does like it did now, we tend to have bugs in our
code since we're usually coding with the assumption that the count isn't
negative.
In order to support the constraints, our post and topic fabricators in
tests will now automatically increment the count for the respective
user's `UserStat` as well. We have to do this because our fabricators
bypasss `PostCreator` which holds the responsibility of updating `UserStat#post_count` and
`UserStat#topic_count`.
Previously all topic posters would be added which could lead to major performance issues. Now if there are too many posters, only the acting user will be added as a participant.
Add TopicUploadSecurityManager to handle post moves. When a post moves around or a topic changes between categories and public/private message status the uploads connected to posts in the topic need to have their secure status updated, depending on the security context the topic now lives in.
- Avoid using User#find and then fetching the user_stat association just to update a counter - We did this for every post in the topic.
- Avoid having to query the topic_allowed_user table everytime we want add a new topic_allowed_user
- Use pluck to fetch just what we need.
This PR introduces a new secure media setting. When enabled, it prevent unathorized access to media uploads (files of type image, video and audio). When the `login_required` setting is enabled, then all media uploads will be protected from unauthorized (anonymous) access. When `login_required`is disabled, only media in private messages will be protected from unauthorized access.
A few notes:
- the `prevent_anons_from_downloading_files` setting no longer applies to audio and video uploads
- the `secure_media` setting can only be enabled if S3 uploads are already enabled and configured
- upload records have a new column, `secure`, which is a boolean `true/false` of the upload's secure status
- when creating a public post with an upload that has already been uploaded and is marked as secure, the post creator will raise an error
- when enabling or disabling the setting on a site with existing uploads, the rake task `uploads:ensure_correct_acl` should be used to update all uploads' secure status and their ACL on S3
Doing .pluck(:column).first is a very common pattern in Discourse and in
most cases, a limit cause isn't being added. Instead of adding a limit
clause to all these callsites, this commit adds two new methods to
ActiveRecord::Relation:
pluck_first, equivalent to limit(1).pluck(*columns).first
and pluck_first! which, like other finder methods, raises an exception
when no record is found
No need to let notifications stay around when users can't access
a topic after it was converted into a PM or posts were moved
into a restricted topic.
Also makes sure that moving to a new topic correctly uses the
guardian for the first post by enqueuing jobs outside of a
transaction.
This reduces chances of errors where consumers of strings mutate inputs
and reduces memory usage of the app.
Test suite passes now, but there may be some stuff left, so we will run
a few sites on a branch prior to merging
Includes support for flags, reviewable users and queued posts, with REST API
backwards compatibility.
