UX: adjust objects editor styles for full page layout (#26265) 2024-03-20 15:55:52 -04:00
David Taylor e3cfb1967d
FIX: Simplify sidebar custom link implementation (#26201)
All our link validation, and conversion from url -> route/model/query is expensive and prone to bugs. Instead, if people enter a link, we can just use it as-is.

Originally all this extra logic was added to handle unusual situations like `/safe-mode`, `/my/...`, etc. However, all of these are now handled correctly by our Ember router, so there is no need for it.

Now, we just pass the user-supplied `href` directly to the SectionLink component, and let Ember handle routing to it when clicked.

The only functional change here is that we no longer validate internal links by parsing them with the Ember router. But I'd argue this is fine, because the previous logic would cause both false positives (e.g. `/t/123` would be valid, even if topic 123 doesn't exist), and false negatives (for routes which are server-side only, like the new AI share pages).

UX: First pass styling experimental objects typed setting editor (#26194)
Why this change?

This is a first pass at styling the editor for creating/editing/updating
an objects typed theme setting. Only the desktop view is being
considered at the current moment.

The objects typed theme setting is still behind a feature flag at this moment so there is no need for us to get the styling perfect. The purpose of this PR is to get us to a state which we can quickly iterate with a designer on.

FEATURE: Allow site settings to be edited throughout admin UI (#26154)
This commit makes it so the site settings filter controls and
the list of settings input editors themselves can be used elsewhere
in the admin UI outside of /admin/site_settings

This allows us to provide more targeted groups of settings in different
UI areas where it makes sense to provide them, such as on plugin pages.
You could open a single page for a plugin where you can see information
about that plugin, change settings, and configure it with custom UIs
in the one place.

In future we will do this in "config areas" for other parts of the
admin UI.

DEV: Support description for properties in objects schema (#26172)
Why this change?

When editing a objects typed theme setting, the input fields which are
rendered should include a description so that the user knows the purpose
of the field which they are changing.

What does this change do?

This change adds support for adding description to each property in the
schema for an object by following a given convention in the locale file.

For a schema like this:

```
objects_setting:
  type: objects
  schema:
    name: section
    properties:
      name:
        type: string
        required: true
      links:
        type: objects
        schema:
          name: link
          properties:
            name:
              type: string
              required: true
              validations:
                max_length: 20
            url:
              type: string
```

Description for each property in the object can be added like so:

```
en:
  theme_metadata:
    settings:
      objects_setting:
        description: <description> for the setting
        schema:
          properties:
            name: <description for the name property>
            links:
              name: <description for the name property in link>
              url: <description for the url property in link>
```

If the a description is not present, the input field will simply not
have an description.

Also note that a description for a theme setting can now be added like
so:

```
en:
  theme_metadata:
    settings:
      some_other_setting: <This will be used as the description>
      objects_setting:
        description: <This will also be used as the description>
```

UX: Display setting description for objects typed theme setting (#26152)
Why this change?

Prior to this change, there is no description being displayed for
objects typed theme setting because we were rendering a button instead
of the components for the various setting types which will render the
setting's description.

What does this change do?

1. Introduce `SiteSettings::Description` compoment to centralise the HTML
being rendered across all settings component.

2. Renders the `SiteSettings::Description` component after the edit
   button in `site_setting.hbs`.

A11Y: Update bulk selection keyboard shortcuts (#26069)
* A11Y: Update bulk selection keyboard shortcuts

Still a draft, but in current state this:

- adds `shift+b` as a keyboard shortcut to toggle bulk select
- adds `shift+d` as a keyboard shortcut to dismiss selected topic(s) (this
replaces `x r` and `x t` shortcuts)
- adds `x` as a keyboard shortcut to toggle selection (while in bulk select mode)
- fixes a bug with the `shift+a` shortcut, which was not working properly

Note that there is a breaking change here. Previously we had:

- `x r` to dismiss new topics
- `x t` to dismiss unread topics

However, this meant that we couldn't use `x` for selection, because the
itsatrap library does not allow the same character to be used both as a
single character shortcut and as the start of a sequence. The proposed
solution here is more consistent with other apps (Gmail, Github) that use
`x` to toggle selection.

Also, we never show both "Dismiss New" and "Dismiss Unread" in the same
screen, hence it makes sense to consolidate both actions under `shift+d`.

DEV: Open theme settings objects editor from admin customize theme page (#26006)
Why this change?

The `/admin/customize/themes/:id/schema/name` route is a work in
progress but we want to be able to start navigating to it from the
`/admin/customize/themes/:id` route.

What does this change do?

1. Move `adminCustomizeThemes.schema` to a child route of
   `adminCustomizeThemes.show`. This is because we need the model
   from the parent route and if it isn't a child route we end up
   having to load the theme model again from the server.

1. Add the `objects_schema` attribute to `ThemeSettingsSerializer`

1. Refactor `SiteSettingComponent` to be able to render a button
   so that we don't have to hardcode the button rendering into the
   `SiteSettings::String` component

DEV: Convert header to glimmer (#25214)
Here is a breakdown of the changes that will be implemented in this PR.

# Widgets -> Glimmer

Obviously, the intention of the todo here is to convert the header from widgets to glimmer. This PR splits the respective widgets as so:

### widgets/site-header.js
```mermaid height=200
flowchart TB
    A[widgets/site-header.js]
    A-->B[components/glimmer-site-header.gjs]
```

### widgets/header.js and children
```mermaid height=200
flowchart TB
    A[widgets/header.js]
    A-->B[components/glimmer-header.gjs]
    B-->C[glimmer-header/contents.gjs]
    C-->D[./auth-buttons.gjs]
    C-->E[./icons.gjs]
    C-->F[./user-menu-wrapper.gjs]
    C-->G[./hamburger-dropdown-wrapper.gjs]
    C-->H[./user-menu-wrapper.gjs]
    C-->I[./sidebar-toggle.gjs]
    C-->J[./topic/info.gjs]
```

There are additional components rendered within the `glimmer-header/*` components, but I will leave those out for now. From this view you can see that we split apart the logic of `widgets/header.js` into 10+ components. Breaking apart these mega files has many benefits (readability, etc).

# Services

I have introduced a [header](cdb42caa04/app/assets/javascripts/discourse/app/services/header.js) service. This simplifies how we pass around data in the header, as well as fixes a bug we have with "swiping" menu panels.

# Modifiers
Added a [close-on-click-outside](cdb42caa04/app/assets/javascripts/discourse/app/modifiers/close-on-click-outside.js) modifier that is built upon the [close-on-click-outside modifier](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/main/app/assets/javascripts/float-kit/addon/modifiers/close-on-click-outside.js) that @jjaffeux built for float-kit. I think we could replace float-kit's implementation with mine and have it in a centralized location as they are extremely similar.

# Tests
Rewrote the existing header tests ([1](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/main/app/assets/javascripts/discourse/tests/integration/components/widgets/header-test.js), [2](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/main/app/assets/javascripts/discourse/tests/integration/components/site-header-test.js)) as system tests.

# Other
- Converted `widgets/user-status-bubble.js` to a gjs component
- Converted `widgets/sidebar-toggle.js` to a gjs component
- Converted `topicFeaturedLinkNode()` to a gjs component
- Deprecated the [docking mixin](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/main/app/assets/javascripts/discourse/app/mixins/docking.js)

FIX: Do not duplicate admin sidebar plugin links (#25780)
When hiding/showing the sidebar, as is the case on mobile
and using the toggle in the top left on desktop, we delete
and recreate the ember component on the page. This causes
the `sections` for each sidebar panel to get re-evaluated

For the admin sidebar, this means that we were constantly
re-adding the plugin links to the sidebar, causing duplication.
This can be fixed by just adding @cached to the getter for
sections.

FEATURE: Add experimental option for strict-dynamic CSP (#25664)
The strict-dynamic CSP directive is supported in all our target browsers, and makes for a much simpler configuration. Instead of allowlisting paths, we use a per-request nonce to authorize `<script>` tags, and then those scripts are allowed to load additional scripts (or add additional inline scripts) without restriction.

This becomes especially useful when admins want to add external scripts like Google Tag Manager, or advertising scripts, which then go on to load a ton of other scripts.

All script tags introduced via themes will automatically have the nonce attribute applied, so it should be zero-effort for theme developers. Plugins *may* need some changes if they are inserting their own script tags.

This commit introduces a strict-dynamic-based CSP behind an experimental `content_security_policy_strict_dynamic` site setting.

When making sensitive changes to an account (adding 2FA or passkeys), we

However, on newly created accounts, we should not require this, it's an

just created). This commit makes it so that we don't require session
confirmation for accounts created less than 5 minutes ago.

FEATURE: Async load of category and chat hashtags (#25526)
This commit includes several changes to make hashtags work when "lazy
load categories" is enabled. The previous hashtag implementation use the
category colors CSS variables, but these are not defined when the site
setting is enabled because categories are no longer preloaded.

This commit implements two fundamental changes:

1. load colors together with the other hashtag information

2. load cooked hashtag data asynchronously

The first change is implemented by adding "colors" to the HashtagItem
model. It is a list because two colors are returned for subcategories:
the color of the parent category and subcategory.

The second change is implemented on the server-side in a new route
/hashtags/by-ids and on the client side by loading previously unseen
hashtags, generating the CSS on the fly and injecting it into the page.

There have been minimal changes outside of these two fundamental ones,
but a refactoring will be coming soon to reuse as much of the code
and maybe favor use of `style` rather than injecting CSS into the page,
which can lead to page rerenders and indefinite grow of the styles.

DEV: Remove full group refreshes from tests (#25414)
We have all these calls to Group.refresh_automatic_groups! littered throughout the tests. Including tests that are seemingly unrelated to groups. This is because automatic group memberships aren't fabricated when making a vanilla user. There are two places where you'd want to use this:

You have fabricated a user that needs a certain trust level (which is now based on group membership.)
You need the system user to have a certain trust level.
In the first case, we can pass refresh_auto_groups: true to the fabricator instead. This is a more lightweight operation that only considers a single user, instead of all users in all groups.

The second case is no longer a thing after #25400.

FIX: respect creation date when paginating group activity posts (#24993)
* FIX: respect creation date when paginating group activity posts

There are scenarios where the chronological order of posts doesn't match the order of their IDs. For instance, when moving the first post from one topic or PM to another, a new post (with a higher ID) will be created, but it will retain the original creation time.

This PR changes the group activity page and endpoint to paginate posts using created_at instead of relying on ID ordering.

FEATURE: Add copy quote button to post selection menu (#25139)
Merges the design experiment at
https://meta.discourse.org/t/post-quote-copy-to-clipboard-button-feedback/285376
into core.

This adds a new button by default to the menu that pops up when text is
selected in a post.

The normal Quote button that is shown when selecting text within a post
will open the composer with the quote markdown prefilled.

This new "Copy Quote" button copies the quote markdown directly to the
user’s clipboard. This is useful for when you want to copy the quote
elsewhere – to another topic or a chat message for instance – without
having to manually copy from the opened composer, which then has to be
dismissed afterwards. An example of quote markdown:

```
[quote="someuser, post:7, topic:285376"]
In this moment, I am euphoric.
[/quote]
FIX: Show admin plugin route sub-links in sidebar (#24982)
This changes the Plugins link in the admin sidebar to
be a section instead, which then shows all enabled plugin
admin routes (which are custom routes some plugins e.g.
This is done via adding some special preloaded data for
all controllers based on AdminController, and also specifically
on Admin::PluginsController, to have the routes loaded without
additional requests on page load.
We just use a cog for all the route icons for now...we don't
have anything better.
FEATURE: Initial admin sidebar navigation (#24789)
This is v0 of admin sidebar navigation, which moves
all of the top-level admin nav from the top of the page
into a sidebar. This is hidden behind a enable_admin_sidebar_navigation
site setting, and is opt-in for now.
This sidebar is dynamically shown whenever the user enters an
admin route in the UI, and is hidden and replaced with either
the:
* Main forum sidebar
* Chat sidebar
Depending on where they navigate to. For now, custom sections
are not supported in the admin sidebar.
This commit removes the experimental admin sidebar generation rake
task but keeps the experimental sidebar UI for now for further
testing; it just uses the real nav as the default now.
UX: Fix edit navigation tags modal height too long on desktop (#24765)
Why this change?
The tags modal loads more tags via infinite loading based on when the last tag in the
given page appears in the viewport for the user. When it comes in to
view, a request is then triggered to fetch additional tags. To ensure
that we are only loading a single page of tags each time the modal is
opened, we previously set a max height on the modal's body to ensure
that the last tag which appears in the modal will be outside of the view
port in the initial load. However, this has regressed recently due to
unknown reasons and resulted in multiple pages of tags being loaded
immediately from the server as the modal's height was not restricted.
This regression was caught by an existing test but was unfortunately
determined as flaky.
What does this change do?
This change restores the max height on the edit navigation menu tags
modal on dekstop.
When submitting files through the form template upload field, we were having an issue where, although a validation error message was being presented to the user, the upload was still coming through, because `PickFilesButton`'s validation happens **after** the Uppy mixin finished the upload and hit `uploadDone`.
This PR adds a new overridable method to the Uppy mixin and overrides it with the custom validation, which now happens before the file is sent.
Additionally, we're now also using `uploadingOrProcessing` as the source of truth to show the upload/uploading label, which seems more reliable.
FIX: Alter "Take Action" default behaviour to hide post (#24088)
This commit fixes an issue where clicking the default
"Take Action" option on a flag for a post doesn't always
end up with the post hidden.
This is because the "take_action" score bonus doesn’t take into account
the final score required to hide the post.
Especially with the `hide_post_sensitivity` site setting set to `low`
sensitivity, there is a likelihood the score needed to hide the post
won’t be reached.
Now, the default "Take Action" button has been changed to "Hide Post"
to reflect what is actually happening and the description has been
improved, and if "Take Action" is clicked we _always_ hide the post
regardless of score and sensitivity settings. This way the action reflects
expectations of the user.
settings in order to help with searching. Keywords are not visible in
the UI, but site settings matching one of the contained keywords will
appear when searching for that keyword.
Keywords can be added for site settings inside of the
`config/locales/server.en.yml` file under the new `keywords` key.
```
site_settings
  example_1: "fancy description"
  example_2: "another description"

  keywords:
    example_1: "capybara"
```
* Add keywords entry for a recently changed site setting and add system specs
* Use page.visit now that we have our own visit
UX: Fix mobile passkeys login button (#24124)
This regressed in b6dc929. A test to ensure this doesn't regress has
been added as well.
This PR also fixes a flakey system spec. The conditional UI gets
triggered automatically, so the system spec shouldn't explicitly call
`find(".passkey-login-button").click`, because sometimes it isn't
present and that causes a test failure.
This fixes a similar issue to 8b3eca0 where an Errno::ETXTBSY error was raised because the minio_runner gem was trying to install the binary across multiple processes in rspec. If we just make sure the latest version is installed before the tests run, this shouldn't happen, since MinioRunner.start will not do any further attempts at installation if the latest version is installed.
FIX: Disable filter when loading tags in edit nav menu tags modal (#23789)
Why this change?
When we're in the midst of loading more tags, the filter dropdown
is still enabled and may result in us firing off multiple requests to
the server to load more tags. This makes the loading hard to reason
about in the tests environment and has led to flaky tests.
What does this change do?
This changes disables the filter dropdown when more tags are being
loading.
DEV: Add new experimental admin UI route and sidebar (#23952)
This commit adds a new admin UI under the route `/admin-revamp`, which is
only accessible if the user is in a group defined by the new `enable_experimental_admin_ui_groups` site setting. It
also adds a special `admin` sidebar panel that is shown instead of the `main`
forum one when the admin is in this area.
![image](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/assets/920448/fa0f25e1-e178-4d94-aa5f-472fd3efd787)
We also add an "Admin Revamp" sidebar link to the community section, which
will only appear if the user is in the setting group:
![image](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/assets/920448/ec05ca8b-5a54-442b-ba89-6af35695c104)
Within this there are subroutes defined like `/admin-revamp/config/:area`,
these areas could contain any UI imaginable, this is just laying down an
initial idea of the structure and how the sidebar will work. Sidebar links are
currently hardcoded.
Some other changes:
* Changed the `main` and `chat` panels sidebar panel keys to use exported const values for reuse
* Allowed custom sidebar sections to hide their headers with the `hideSectionHeader` option
* Add a `groupSettingArray` setting on `this.siteSettings` in JS, which accepts a group site setting name
  and splits it by `|` then converts the items in the array to integers, similar to the `_map` magic for ruby
  group site settings
* Adds a `hidden` option for sidebar panels which prevents them from showing in separated mode and prevents
  the switch button from being shown
Revert "FEATURE: Count only approved flagged posts in user pages (#22799)" (#23962)
This reverts commit 5f0bc4557f.
Through extensive internal discussion we have decided to revert
this change, as it significantly impacted moderation flow for
some Discourse site moderators, especially around "something else"
flags. We need to re-approach how flags are counted holistically,
so to that end this change is being reverted.
UX: improve touch, swipe, panning performance on mobile menus (#23775)
PERF: improve touch, swipe, panning performance on mobile menus
---
* stop event propagation on swipe events: other touch events were stealing a huge amount of time here. Stop event
propagation when handling pan events.
* animate with [web animations api](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_Animations_API/Using_the_Web_Animations_API)
* prefer translate3d to hint for gpu rendering.
* query document for elements only on start move event, not on subsequent move
events
* remove unused calculations for directioned velocity and distance: all swipe/pan elements function in x/y direction only.
* re-implement scroll locking behavior.
re-implemented scroll lock behavior
---
With stop event propagation, we need to re-implement scroll locking on menu swipes.
Previously, this was using onTouchMove which was costly.
We may now use styling with overflow-y:hidden to lock scroll behavior.
overflow:hidden on html/body elements is now supported by iOS as of 2022
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=153852
https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220908
UX: improve swipe
---
Some improvements to get gestures and swipes feeling a little more polished.
This focuses on end gesture, and how we transfer it to a css animation to
complete a menu open/close action.
Multitouch: events may pan, scroll, and zoom - especially on iOS safari.
Cancelling the swipe event allows for a more pleasant zooming experience.
* ease-out on menus opening, linear on close
* calculate animation duration for opening and closing,
attempt to better transfer user swipe velocity to css animation.
* more timely close/open and cleanup from calculated animation timing.
* add animation to closing menus on cloak tap
* correctly animate menus with ease-in and ease-out
* add swipe cancel event on multitouch event
DEV
---
* lean on promises
js animations api gives us promises to listen to. Update test waiters
to use waitForPromise from @ember/test-waiters instead of reigster/unregister.
* convert swipe mixin to its own class.
Convert swipe callbacks to custom events on the element.
Move shared functions for max animation time and close logic to
new shared class.
swipe-events lib uses custom events to trigger callbacks, rather than assuming
implemented hard coded function from the mixin's base class. Custom events are
triggered from the bound element as swipestart, swipeend, swipe
Add shared convenience functions for swipe events so they can be more easily
shared.
A client receives an initial swipe event and can check some state to see if it
wants to handle the swipe event and if it doesn't, calling
`event.preventDefault();` will prevent `swipe` and `swipeend` events from firing
until another distinct swipestart event is fired. Swipe events will auto-cancel on multitouch.
The scroll lock has also exposed as its own utility class.
FEATURE: Remove support for legacy navigation menu (#23752)
Why this change?
Back in May 17 2023 along with the release of Discourse 3.1, we announced
on meta that the legacy hamburger dropdown navigation menu is
deprecated and will be dropped in Discourse 3.2. This is the link to the announcement
on meta: https://meta.discourse.org/t/removing-the-legacy-hamburger-navigation-menu-option/265274
## What does this change do?
This change removes the `legacy` option from the `navigation_menu` site
setting and migrates existing sites on the `legacy` option to the
`header dropdown` option.
All references to the `legacy` option in code and tests have been
removed as well.
