Sergey Biryukov 11fb201256 Code Modernization: Remove obsolete comments about older PHP versions.
This commit:
* Removes various comments referencing PHP versions which are no longer supported.
* Removes various comments containing “hints” of things to do after a particular PHP version drop. These hints are incorrect/not actionable for various reasons, so have no value:
 * Even though a function could be turned into a closure, removing the function would be a backward compatibility break which is not acceptable, so this suggestion is not actionable.
 * Short ternaries are forbidden by the coding standard exactly to prevent the faulty code suggested in the comment from getting into the codebase.

Sergey Biryukov 1ce5dc7444 Code Modernization: Replace usage of `strpos()` with `str_contains()`.
`str_contains()` was introduced in PHP 8.0 to perform a case-sensitive check indicating if the string to search in (haystack) contains the given substring (needle).

WordPress core includes a polyfill for `str_contains()` on PHP < 8.0 as of WordPress 5.9.

This commit replaces `false !== strpos( ... )` with `str_contains()` in core files, making the code more readable and consistent, as well as better aligned with modern development practices.

Sergey Biryukov 2ec23a82ed Code Modernization: Replace usage of `strpos()` with `str_starts_with()`.
`str_starts_with()` was introduced in PHP 8.0 to perform a case-sensitive check indicating if the string to search in (haystack) begins with the given substring (needle).

WordPress core includes a polyfill for `str_starts_with()` on PHP < 8.0 as of WordPress 5.9.

This commit replaces `0 === strpos( ... )` with `str_starts_with()` in core files, making the code more readable and consistent, as well as improving performance.

While `strpos()` is slightly faster than the polyfill on PHP < 8.0, `str_starts_with()` is noticeably faster on PHP 8.0+, as it is optimized to avoid unnecessarily searching along the whole haystack if it does not find the needle.

Sergey Biryukov c03305852e Code Modernization: Add `AllowDynamicProperties` attribute to all (parent) classes.
Dynamic (non-explicitly declared) properties are deprecated as of PHP 8.2 and are expected to become a fatal error in PHP 9.0.

There are a number of ways to mitigate this:
* If it is an accidental typo for a declared property: fix the typo.
* For known properties: declare them on the class.
* For unknown properties: add the magic `__get()`, `__set()`, et al. methods to the class or let the class extend `stdClass` which has highly optimized versions of these magic methods built in.
* For unknown ''use'' of dynamic properties, the `#[AllowDynamicProperties]` attribute can be added to the class. The attribute will automatically be inherited by child classes.

Trac ticket #56034 is open to investigate and handle the third and fourth type of situations, however it has become clear this will need more time and will not be ready in time for WP 6.1.

To reduce “noise” in the meantime, both in the error logs of WP users moving onto PHP 8.2, in the test run logs of WP itself, in test runs of plugins and themes, as well as to prevent duplicate tickets from being opened for the same issue, this commit adds the `#[AllowDynamicProperties]` attribute to all “parent” classes in WP.

The logic used for this commit is as follows:
* If a class already has the attribute: no action needed.
* If a class does not `extend`: add the attribute.
* If a class does `extend`:
 - If it extends `stdClass`: no action needed (as `stdClass` supports dynamic properties).
 - If it extends a PHP native class: add the attribute.
 - If it extends a class from one of WP's external dependencies: add the attribute.
* In all other cases: no action — the attribute should not be needed as child classes inherit from the parent.

Whether or not a class contains magic methods has not been taken into account, as a review of the currently existing magic methods has shown that those are generally not sturdy enough and often even set dynamic properties (which they should not). See the [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDZWepDQQVE live stream from August 16, 2022] for more details.

This commit only affects classes in the `src` directory of WordPress core.
* Tests should not get this attribute, but should be fixed to not use dynamic properties instead. Patches for this are already being committed under ticket #56033.
* While a number bundled themes (2014, 2019, 2020, 2021) contain classes, they are not a part of this commit and may be updated separately.

Sergey Biryukov 68ba315d9a Code Modernization: Silence the deprecation warnings for missing return type in `WP_REST_Request`.
This fixes the "Deprecated: Return type of `WP_REST_Request::[METHODNAME]($offset)` should be compatible with `ArrayAccess::[METHODNAME](): type`" warnings on PHP 8.1.

PHP native interfaces now have declared return types and methods in classes implementing these interfaces need to either have the return type declared (in a covariant compatible manner with the PHP native interface method declaration), or need to silence the deprecation warning using the `#[ReturnTypeWillChange]` attribute.

TimothyBlynJacobs 8a51ab57e0 REST API: Return detailed error information from request validation.
Previously, only the first error message for each parameter was made available. Now, all error messages for a parameter are concatenated. Additionally, the detailed error for each parameter is made available in a new `details` section of the validation error. Each error is formatted following the standard REST API error formatting.

The `WP_REST_Server::error_to_response` method has been abstracted out into a standalone function `rest_convert_error_to_response` to allow for reuse by `WP_REST_Request`. The formatted errors now also contain an `additional_data` property which contains the additional error data provided by `WP_Error::get_all_error_data`.

TimothyBlynJacobs f43ca27db9 REST API: Support a route-level validation callback.
Most request data is validated on a per-parameter basis. Often, however, additional validation is needed that operates on the entire request object. Currently, this is done in the route callback and often in the `prepare_item_for_database` method specifically.

#50244 aims to introduce batch processing in the REST API. An important feature is the ability to enforce that all requests have valid data before executing the route callbacks in "pre-validate" mode.

This patch introduces support for calling a `validate_callback` after all parameter validation has succeeded. That allows moving more validation outside of the route callback and into `WP_REST_Request` which will improve "pre-validate" support.

TimothyBlynJacobs 86ea4f0838 REST API: Fix warning when using `set_param()` on a JSON request with no body.
In [47559] the `WP_REST_Request::set_param()` method was adjusted to try and overwrite an existing parameter definition before forcing the value in the first parameter slot. If `set_param()` was called on a request with an `application/json` content type and an empty body, a PHP warning would be issued. This was due to the JSON parameter type not being set to an array when the body is empty.

This commit avoids the warning by adding an `is_array()` check before calling `array_key_exists`. Ideally, `WP_REST_Reuest::parse_json_params()` would set the JSON parameter type to an empty array in this case, but that is too large of a change at this point in the cycle.

desrosj 3cf6276ed0 Code Modernization: Remove JSON extension workarounds for PHP < 5.6.
The PHP native JSON extension has been bundled and compiled with PHP by default since version 5.2.0. Because the minimum version of PHP required by WordPress is now 5.6.20 (see #46594 and [45058]), JSON extension related polyfills and backwards compatibility code can now be removed.

This change removes code that supported JSON related functionality on older versions of PHP. This includes (but is not limited to) checks that `json_last_error()` exists, checking and setting the `JSON_UNESCAPED_SLASHES` and `JSON_PRETTY_PRINT` constants if not previously defined, and deprecating the `_wp_json_prepare_data()` function (which was 100% workaround code).

Drew Jaynes 0860bb2771 Docs: Remove `@access` notations from method DocBlocks in wp-includes/* classes.
Prior to about 2013, many class methods lacked even access modifiers which made the `@access` notations that much more useful. Now that we've gotten to a point where the codebase is more mature from a maintenance perspective and we can finally remove these notations. Notable exceptions to this change include standalone functions notated as private as well as some classes still considered to represent "private" APIs.

James Nylen 252ab08d88 REST API: Fix changing parameters with `set_param()` for some requests.
Prior to this commit, `WP_Rest_Request::get_param()` traversed through the parameter order but `WP_Rest_Request::set_param()` did not. For JSON requests (and likely other situations as well), this meant that changing a parameter with `set_param()` would have no effect on `get_param()`.

Joe Hoyle b0a327cf3c REST API: WP_REST_Request::remove_header() should canonicalize header names.

James Nylen 7d421b2042 REST API: Correctly parse body parameters for DELETE requests.
DELETE was inadvertently omitted from the list of non-POST HTTP methods that should be able to accept body parameters. Parameters passed to DELETE requests as JSON are already parsed correctly; this commit fixes `application/x-www-form-urlencoded` parameters as well.

Rachel Baker d054b9afba REST API: Allow schema sanitization_callback to be set to null to bypass fallback sanitization functions.
The logic in WP_REST_Request->sanitize_params() added in [39091] did not account for `null` or `false` being the sanitization_callback preventing overriding `rest_parse_request_arg()`. This fixes that oversight, allowing the built in sanitization function to be bypassed. See #38593.
