Scott Taylor 943f295d2e Add core support for Playlists and Video Playlists. 
* Playlists operate like galleries in the admin. 
* Provide default UI and JS support in themes using MediaElement and Backbone. 
* The shortcodes are clickable, editable, and configurable using the media modal. 
* Playlists support images for each item, whether or not the current theme supports images for `attachment:audio` and `attachment:video`
* Playlists respond to `$content_width` and resize videos accordingly.
* All playlist data is included inline, using a script tag with `type="application/json"`, allowing anyone to unenqueue the WP playlist JS and roll their own.
* Playlist styles are minimal and work out of the box in the last 5 default themes. They inherit and adapt to the current theme's font styles, and their rules are easily overrideable.

Dominik Schilling c9a27f3927 Build: Update version of grunt-autoprefixer devDependency. 
The update includes a new version of Autoprefixer which now supports the `ms-touch-action` prop for IE10.
Run `grunt autoprefixer:core` to re-add the missing props in media-view.css.

Scott Taylor 4193c7f6c3 In `media-views.js`, add `wp.media.controller.CollectionAdd` and `wp.media.controller.CollectionEdit` to provide an abstraction for Add and Edit screens in the media modal for collection-type things. 
There are currently no instances of this. Those will be forthcoming.

Scott Taylor 08b1c1b0f5 Add an abstraction of the gallery code in `media-editor.js` called `wp.media.collection`. This will be the basis for parsing `[gallery]`-like shortcodes in the media editor (thing playlists, collections of PDFs, etc). 
There are currently no instances of this. Those will be forthcoming.

Scott Taylor 7ff83d46aa Allow pseudo post types `attachment:audio` and `attachment:video` to get the media modal on Edit Media when they support featured images. 
Introduces `post_supports_thumbnails( $post )` and `theme_supports_thumbnails( $post )` to cut down on duplicated code everytime this needs to be checked. There will be more cases forthcoming.

Scott Taylor 55b4eee4c2 Make `WP_User_Query::prepare_query()` public by allowing it to be passed an array of args. Previously, if the `WP_User_Query` constructor was not passed args, the object was basically unusable. Adds unit tests, all other tests pass.

Scott Taylor 14fba3c926 `wp_get_post_revisions()` should have a default `orderby` of `date ID` to tie-break rapidly added revisions - namely, when unit tests are run. There is a test that occasionally fails when running all tests, and always fails when running `phpunit tests/phpunit/tests/post/revisions.php `. This fixes that.

Andrew Nacin eae1d5641d Multisite: Add get_network_by_path() and wp_get_network() to begin cleanup of multisite load. 
Tries to get network detection under control by simplifying wpmu_current_site(). It now also pops off each subdomain to find a more general match. Adds unit tests for get_network_by_path() and a new network factory for unit tests.

Much of this is likely to change in 3.9 as more of ms-load.php and ms-settings.php gets hacked to bits.

Andrew Nacin 11c3695c77 Dev/build tools: Use grunt-autoprefixer for CSS vendor prefixes. 
We'll be using it for two distinct tasks:
 * Core CSS files will keep prefixes. `grunt autoprefixer:core` will update files directly in src/ as a pre-commit step, rather than doing it on build.
 * Color CSS files will receive prefixes when they are built.

This commit:
 * Adds prefixes we were missing to core CSS.
 * Removes prefixes that we no longer need from core CSS.
 * Removes all prefixes from colors CSS.

Andrew Nacin ca4a29c002 Update media-views and wp.Backbone.View for Backbone 1.1. 
* Collection set/add/remove/reset methods now return models, not `this`, so they can no longer be chained.
 * Options passed to Backbone.View's constructor are no longer attached automatically. wp.Backbone.View now does this automatically.

Andrew Nacin 07adb0640f Update Backbone from 1.0 to 1.1. 
Also update Underscore to 1.6. Includes the development versions of both, which are not included in the build.

Here is Backbone's changelog:
 * Made the return values of Collection’s `set`, `add`, `remove`, and `reset` more useful. Instead of returning `this`, they now return the changed (added, removed or updated) model or list of 
models. (This means they can no longer be chained.)
 * Backbone Views no longer automatically attach options passed to the constructor as `this.options` and Backbone Models no longer attach `url` and `urlRoot` options, but you can do it yourself if you prefer. (But if you extend `wp.Backbone.View`, options will be attached for you.)
 * All `"invalid"` events now pass consistent arguments. First the model in question, then the error object, then options.
 * You are no longer permitted to change the id of your model during `parse`. Use `idAttribute` instead.
 * On the other hand, `parse` is now an excellent place to extract and vivify incoming nested JSON into associated submodels.

See [27171] (next commit) for changes made to WordPress to be compatible with Backbone 1.1.

Scott Taylor 5a43c3324d Partially revert [27101], [27102], [27141], and [27142]. Those commits introduced new functions to sync up cache invalidation events. The current commit alters existing internals. 
"The cache invalidation with static was introduced in r9102 with version 2.7. Multisite wasn't in core back then, so something like switch_to_blog() wasn't a concern, but now it breaks if you switch the blog in between calls to clean_term_cache."

This solution is simpler. All unit tests pass. Removes unnecessary tests linked to removed functions.

- Add a "toolbar" at the top of the image with two buttons: Edit and Delete.
- Don't open the edit modal on second click on the image. Makes the "edit" button somewhat pointless and can sometimes trigger after resizing the image.
- When the image has caption: attempt to prevent IE11 from making the caption element resizable and wrapping it in thick border.
- When the caret is inside a caption next to the image, pressing Enter will create a new <p> tag above the caption.
- Hide the image toolbar on drag, cut, align.

Scott Taylor 03dda3b273 Introduce `maybe_regenerate_attachment_metadata( $attachment )`. On the Edit Media screen, call it for Audio and Video files. 
The functions checks if the item is lacking metadata altogether. If a video or audio file was uploaded prior to 3.6, it does not have any metadata. This tries to fix it. Implements locking via a transient to protect against this running in parallel with another request.

This is the minimum viable product for #26825, but leaving the ticket open unless this function needs to be called in other places.

Scott Taylor 75d8688f60 When a `term_id` matches in `_get_term_children()`, recurse through its children until there is no more depth in the hierarchy. Since `get_terms()` return terms with a `count` of `0` when their children are not empty, we must return all children so that `get_terms()` can check their count. 
In [27108], #26903 was fixed, but only because we were using the example in the ticket, leaving out infinite depth for hierarchical taxonomies.

Adds unit tests, including `Tests_Term_getTerms::test_get_terms_seven_levels_deep()`.

Fixes #26903. Again.

Scott Taylor c2b712e3b9 In `get_terms()`, don't set automatically `hierarchical` to `false` when `parent => 0` is passed. The default value for `parent` is `''`. 
In `_get_term_children()`, don't skip a top-level term without first including its children in the returned term list. Ironically, the call to `_get_term_children()` in `get_terms()` has a comment stating `"Make sure we show empty categories that have children."`, but it didn't work if you were retrieving top-level categories only.

All unit tests pass. Added a unit test based on the use case described in this ticket.

Scott Taylor 5d03d8eb50 Regenerate the term hierarchy cache (`{taxonomy}_children`) when it is out of sync with the passed taxonomy's `last_changed` value. 
Introduces `taxonomy_hierarchy_is_fresh()`, which is only called in `_get_term_hierarchy()`. The taxonomy's `last_changed` value is checked against the value of `wp_cache_get( 'hierarchy_last_changed', $taxonomy )`.

Adds a unit test - `Tests_Term:test_hierachy_invalidation()`.

See [27101], which makes this type of cache invalidation possible.

Scott Taylor 578dbcd9f5 Add cache invalidation when updating a term, example: create a category, assign it to a post, edit the category. Currently, the post's term cache is not updated. When updating terms in a given taxonomy, invalidate the object term caches linked to that taxonomy. 
Introduce `get_taxonomy_last_changed()`, `set_taxonomy_last_changed()`, and `post_taxonomy_is_fresh()`.

`post_taxonomy_is_fresh()` is only called in `get_object_term_cache()` - at which point the taxonomy's `last_changed` value is checked against the post's `{$taxonomy}_last_changed` value.

`set_taxonomy_last_changed()` is called whenever directory database queries are made that insert new terms or affect existing terms.

Fixes #22526.

Scott Taylor 4830eeb9ad Properly invalidate the cache for `wp_count_posts()` on insert, trash, or when transitioning `post_status` inside of `_transition_post_status()`. Introduces `_count_posts_cache_key()`. Adds unit tests.

Andrew Nacin 9f250b2ef7 Ensure compatibility with MySQL 5.6 which has stricter SQL modes by default. 
Disables NO_ZERO_DATE, ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY, STRICT_TRANS_TABLES, STRICT_ALL_TABLES, TRADITIONAL. Introduces wpdb::set_sql_mode() with an incompatible_sql_modes filter so a plugin can alter the set mode after the fact.

Scott Taylor a6b3bced06 `get_comment()`, `wp_get_post_revision()`, and `get_term()` all used to return by reference. Because of this, `$null` was set to `null` so the return value would be a variable where applicable. This has not been necessary since [21792], so the `$null`s have been removed.

In `dead_db()`, move the call to `wp_load_translations_early()` before the inclusion of the `db-error.php` file to allow translation in both locations before the template is loaded.

- Move the 'Saving post' and 'Draft saved at...' strings from autosaveL10n to postL10n as they are used only there.
- Use the custom jQuery events 'before-autosave' and 'after-autosave' to show these messages.
- Separate autosave.suspend() for local and server so local autosaves can continue while server autosaves are suspended.
- Remove the recently added autosave.server.disable() and use autosave.server.suspend() instead.
- Bring back .button.disabled, button-primary.disabled and use .disabled to prevent multiple form submissions.

- Remove .ab-sub-wrapper rules in the 782px media query, as they're duplicates of the rules set on line 161.
- Reposition the arrows for submenus at responsive sizes where the menus are taller.
- Set the submenu position to static at smartphone sizes, so it's not positioned outside of its parent (and thus offscreen).

Scott Taylor 014007f029 Fix a regression for `get_queried_object()` by checking for `category_name` when `cat` isn't set - mainly `is_category()` being true for Uncategorized or when queried object is accessed in `pre_get_posts`. Also check for `$query['terms']` when trying to assign a term as the queried object when `is_tax()` is true. Adds a unit test. See [26007] for how I originally broke this while fixing a bigger issue.

Andrew Nacin aa1ac65bfc Admin color schemes: Manually handle RTL and minified versions of the CSS files on registration. 
This bypasses WP_Styles entirely, which is much simpler for the moment, given that color schemes bypass WP_Styles for plenty already. The script loader is told to stop thinking of colors.css as an RTL-ified file. The colors-fresh handle, used directly on the login screen, needed to be (even before this commit).

Andrew Nacin 8b8c8e96e7 Deactivate MP6 on update to 3.8. 
If left on, it introduces a lot of weird issues not easily diagnosed. MP6 will be updated before release to prevent itself from functioning 3.8+, but this will cut down on support requests by people who update core but not MP6, which was a fairly popular plugin.

Andrew Nacin 9b29ad0529 Allow for Dashicons and base64-encoded data:image/svg+xml URIs when specifying menu icons. 
Both of these icons can be colored to match the color scheme, including hover states.
Both are accepted for register_post_type()'s menu_icon argument, and also add_menu_page()'s $icon_url argument.

To use a Dashicon, pass the name of the helper class, e.g. 'dashicons-piechart'.
To use an SVG, pass a valid data URI string starting with 'data:image/svg+xml;base64,'.

Dominik Schilling a6cabe9f6d Customizer: Don't trigger a change event if two unchanged object values are equal. 
In JavaScript: `{"title":"Foo"} !== {"title":"Foo"}`
Underscore.js provides an isEqual function to compare two values to see if they have the same contents, which can be use instead.
Because only one function of Underscore.js is needed we just add a copy of `_.isEqual` to customize-base.js.

Matt Thomas e54ee86aaa Make the responsive layout behave better when the user zooms the page: 
* Change the smartphone media query from 480 to 600px so it captures large screen phones in landscape mode.
* Set #wpadminbar to position: absolute at smartphone sizes so it scrolls with the page, freeing up the viewport.
* Remove the transition states on #adminmenu for better performance on mobile devices
* Make the responsive sidebar scroll with the page instead of using a fixed position
* Remove the -webkit-overflow-scrolling rule that was disabling scroll-to-top when tapping the iOS status bar.
* Remove unnecessary zoom declaration from -ms-viewport.

Mark Jaquith c2cdbf9648 Fix `comment_notification_recipients` filter behavior so that it is still respected even on comments left by the post author 
The code was bailing on this-is-a-comment-on-your-own-post detection, ignoring additional recipients. Now:

* Logic check is done within `wp_notify_postauthor()`
* Logic check is overridable via `comment_notification_notify_author` filter (default still false)
* The code doesn't bail on comment-on-own-post detection, but just removes the author from the array
* The code instead now bails if the recipients list is empty, so `comment_notification_recipients` works properly

Scott Taylor da05f7435b For unit tests that call `wpmu_create_blog()`, Blog factory, or installation code that attempts to clear transients: suppress database errors on `setUp` and restore on `tearDown`. 
There are a few places in core that were preventing this from working by explicity setting `$wpdb->suppress_errors` to `false`. Instead, they should inherit the value that existed before errors were suppressed.

This allows Multisite unit tests to run without explosive database errors, and allows `$wpdb->suppress_errors` to be overridden all the way down the chain.

Helen Hou-Sandí 603c1aff6d Merge the color schemes component from MP6. Introduces Light, Blue, and Midnight. 
Color scheme selection on your own profile page gives you a preview and autosaves the selection.

Also introduces the usage of a preprocessor for core files, namely Sass. For 3.8, we will not expand its implementation past the color schemes. This does require Ruby as well as Sass 3.3.0+ due to the usage of the sourcemap option.

Note that only the default color scheme is available when running out of src. Use build to test the rest as well as the color picker.

Matt Thomas 2adf09fea9 Bring in the responsive component of MP6. See #25858. 
* Makes the admin fully responsive down to 320px wide.
* Adds a touch-optimized main menu that can be opened and closed from the toolbar.
* Size and positioning adjustments to icons, buttons, and text elements for better touch usability.

A few changes since MP6:

* Removed jQuery mobile. This script was used to add swipe controls to open/close the sidebar menu. This feature was apparently buggy and due to the pending demise of jQuery mobile, it was removed.
* Removed use of Backbone.js. Adding Backbone.js to this script would add a dependency of Backbone.js for all of the admin. Additionally, it was used to add a menu item. Instead of doing that, it was added via the admin menu API. This also fixes a bad delay in the item showing in the menu.
* CSS layout is standardized. Comments have also been cleaned up.
* Jetpack and Akismet code is removed.
* RTL CSS is removed.
* JS passes hinting other than one small issue that will likely be removed when parts of the code are reviewed.

A number of areas for improvement remain; we're tracking these issues in the comments of #25858.

Andrew Nacin 1e30be32c4 Use CSSJanus via a Grunt task to generate right-to-left CSS. 
RTL files are now created on build for core CSS files. These files replace the LTR file completely, rather than being in addition to the existing LTR file.

Benefits:
 * For the user: less CSS is served in RTL, less HTTP requests on the frontend, and less work for the browser.
 * For the core developer: Let the tools do the work.

Notes for core development:
 * The file generation task is `grunt rtl`.
 * `grunt watch` now handles generating RTL files in /build when a CSS file in /src is saved.
 * /src is now locked to LTR. RTL testing must occur via /build. When attempting to run an RTL text direction with /src, an admin notice will display.

Expect RTL bugs. Please report them.

Scott Taylor 45deda0726 Fix canonical redirection of `cat` as described in #15256 by rolling the `cat` query var into `tax_query`, instead of `category__in` / `category__not_in`. Top-level categories were only redirecting properly if they had no children. 
All unit tests pass. Tests marked for #15256 are no longer skipped.

Scott Taylor ca85591c3c Category and tag are typically checked before checking for a custom taxonomy. If the global query matches category or tag (even if it also has tax_query set), return category/tag as the queried object, instead of arbitrarily returning the first term in the `tax_query` stack (typically those added with 'pre_get_posts'). 
Real world example: http://www.emusic.com/17dots/topics/daily-download/ - "tag" page, regionalized for US-only content using `pre_get_posts` passing in the terms "US" and "ALL" for "region" (custom tax). All of the theme functions would output "ALL" as the term name. Even though it was a tag archive, the queried object was an arbitrary term from `tax_query`.

Scott Taylor a5eb3208d7 `WP_UnitTestCase::go_to()` tried its best to clean up global space, but ultimately fell short. Because it was blowing away `WP` every time it was called, it was dropping all the query vars that were registered for custom taxonomies and custom post types (ouch). 
Introduces `_cleanup_query_vars()`. This is a prerequisite for the unit tests on #20767. All unit tests pass with this change.

Each took an array of category (IDs) when to search. Those can now be term IDs and each function now has $taxonomy = 'category' as an optional argument.

Andrew Nacin a8ef13972c When an HTTPS request to api.wordpress.org fails, try an insecure HTTP request and issue a warning. 
Certain versions of cURL appear to claim OpenSSL support but fail to work. We need to not trap users on older versions while we work this out, and instead fall back to an insecure request.

Andrew Nacin ac2e70227f Make some changes to the email templates to account for the fact that an auto update offer might not be to the latest version. 
For example, 3.7.2 install is served a 3.7.3 update, but the current version is 3.8.1.

This commit also allows for core update notification emails to be sent even when we are unable to run an auto update due to filesystem configuration (VCS checkout or file permissions). But, since these emails go through WP_Automatic_Updater, they will not be sent if the updater is outright disabled.
