The docs state that `_gce_` is recommended but the code sample states
that `_gce:hostname_` is recommended. This aligns the code sample with
the documentation. Also replace `type` with `zen.hosts_provider` as
discovery.type was removed in #25080.
With this commit we reduce heap usage of the ingest-geoip plugin by
memory-mapping the database files. Previously, we have stored these
files gzip-compressed but this has resulted that data are loaded on the
heap.

Similarly to what has been done for s3 and azure, this commit removes
the repository settings `application_name` and `connect/read_timeout`
in favor of client settings. It introduce a GoogleCloudStorageClientSettings
class (similar to S3ClientSettings) and a bunch of unit tests for that,
it aligns the documentation to be more coherent with the S3 one, it
documents the connect/read timeouts that were not documented at all and
also adds a new client setting that allows to define a custom endpoint.
This directory was removed from plugins in #28589, but docs still
referenced it. This commit cleans up the plugin author docs to no longer
refer to it.
This pull request replaces the jvm-example plugin (from the jvm/site plugins era) by two new plugins: a custom-settings that shows how to register and use custom settings (including secured settings) in a plugin, and rest-handler plugin that shows how to register a rest handler.
The two plugins now reside in the plugins/examples project. They can serve as sample plugins for users, a special attention has been put on documentation. The packaging tests have been adapted to use the custom-settings plugin.
This commit adds the ability to package multiple plugins in a single zip.
The zip file for a meta plugin must contains the following structure:

The sub-plugins are loaded at startup like normal plugins with the same restrictions; they have a separate class loader and a sub-plugin
cannot have the same name than another plugin (or a sub-plugin inside another meta plugin).
It is also not possible to remove a sub-plugin inside a meta plugin, only full removal of the meta plugin is allowed.

Now the blob size information is available before writing anything,
the repository implementation can know upfront what will be the
more suitable API to upload the blob to S3.
This commit removes the DefaultS3OutputStream and S3OutputStream
classes and moves the implementation of the upload logic directly in the
S3BlobContainer.

You can define a proxy using the following settings:

We remove azure deprecated settings in 7.0:
* The legacy azure settings which where starting with `cloud.azure.storage.` prefix have been removed.
This includes `account`, `key`, `default` and `timeout`.
You need to use settings which are starting with `azure.client.` prefix instead.
* Global timeout setting `cloud.azure.storage.timeout` has been removed.
You must set it per azure client instead. Like `azure.client.default.timeout: 10s` for example.
All of the snippets in our docs marked with `// TESTRESPONSE` are
checked against the response from Elasticsearch but, due to the
way they are implemented they are actually parsed as YAML instead
of JSON. Luckilly, all valid JSON is valid YAML! Unfurtunately
that means that invalid JSON has snuck into the exmples!
This adds a step during the build to parse them as JSON and fail
the build if they don't parse.
But no! It isn't quite that simple. The displayed text of some of
these responses looks like:

it in the output. We use substitution rules to convert the `...`

That is what the tests consume but it isn't valid JSON! Oh no! We don't
want to go update all the substitution rules because that'd be huge and,
ultimately, wouldn't buy much. So we quote the `$body.took` bits before
parsing the JSON.
Note the responses that we use for the `_cat` APIs are all converted into
regexes and there is no expectation that they are valid JSON.

The environment variable CONF_DIR was previously inconsistently used in
our packaging to customize the location of Elasticsearch configuration
files. The importance of this environment variable has increased
starting in 6.0.0 as it's now used consistently to ensure Elasticsearch
and all secondary scripts (e.g., elasticsearch-keystore) all use the
same configuration. The name CONF_DIR is there for legacy reasons yet
it's too generic. This commit renames CONF_DIR to ES_PATH_CONF.

This commit updates the s3 repository docs to clearly mark settings as
part of the s3 client settings, as well as those that are secure and
must be stored in the elasticsearch keystore.

The s3 repository plugin has "third party" integ tests which rely
on external service and configuration setup. These tests are really
internal verification of the plugin (and should be moved to real integ
tests). Running them is not something a user should do, and the
documentation has been out of date for all of 5.x. This commit removes
the docs, removing potential confusion for users.
This commit adds the min wire/index compat versions to the main action
output. Not only will this make the compatility expected more
transparent, but it also allows to test which version others think the
compat versions are, similar to how we test the lucene version.
If a cluster is configured with an HDFS repository and a node is started, that node must be able
to reach HDFS, or else when it attempts to add the repository from the cluster state at start up
it will fail to connect and the repository will be left in an inconsistent state. Adding a blurb in the
docs to outline the expected availability for HDFS when using the repository plugin.
UnicodeSetFilter was only allowed in the icu_folding token filter.
It seems useful to expose this setting in icu_normalizer token filter
and char filter.
By default, the remove plugin CLI command preserves configuration
files. This is so that if a user is upgrading the plugin (which is done
by first removing the old version and then installing the new version)
they do not lose their configuration file. Yet, there are circumstances
where preserving the configuration file is not desired. This commit adds
a purge option to the remove plugin CLI command.

This commit fixes an issue with the plugin docs incorrectly specifying
how to set a custom configuration directory. The correct way is to use
the environment variable CONF_DIR.
This commit adds gcs credential settings to the elasticsearch keystore.
The setting name follows the same pattern as the s3 client settings,
beginning with `gcs.client.`, followed by the client name, and then the
setting name, in this case, `credentials_file`. Using the legacy service
file setting is also deprecated.
Adds a new "icu_collation" field type that exposes lucene's
ICUCollationDocValuesField. ICUCollationDocValuesField is the replacement
for ICUCollationKeyFilter which has been deprecated since Lucene 5.
Added missing permissions required for authenticating with Kerberos to HDFS. Also implemented
code to support authentication in the form of using a Kerberos keytab file. In order to support
HDFS authentication, users must install a Kerberos keytab file on each node and transfer it to the
configuration directory. When a user specifies a Kerberos principal in the repository settings the
plugin automatically enables security for Hadoop and begins the login process. There will be a
separate PR and commit for the testing infrastructure to support these changes.
They needed to be updated now that Painless is the default and
the non-sandboxed scripting languages are going away or gone.
I dropped the entire section about customizing the classloader
whitelists. In master this barely does anything (exposes more
things to expressions).
With this commit, Azure repositories are now using an Exponential Backoff policy before failing the backup.
It uses Azure SDK default values for this policy:
* `30s` delta backoff base with
* `3s` min
* `90s` max
* `3` retries max
Users can define the number of retries they wish by setting `cloud.azure.storage.xxx.max_retries` where `xxx` is the azure named account.

proxy on Windows where the HTTP proxy options were incorrectly

In this repository, `Settings.builder` is used everywhere although it does exactly same as `Settings.settingsBuilder`. With the reference of the commit 42526ac28e , I think mistakenly this `Settings.settingsBuilder` remains in.
Today we have multiple ways to define settings when a user needs to create a repository:
* in `elasticsearch.yml` file using `repositories.azure` prefix
* when creating the repository itself with `PUT _snaphot/repo`
The plan is to:
* Deprecate `repositories.azure` settings in 5.x (done with #22856)
* Remove in 6.x (this PR)

Follow up of #22857 where we deprecate automatic creation of azure containers.
BTW I found that the `AzureSnapshotRestoreServiceIntegTests` does not bring any value because it runs basically a Snapshot/Restore operation on local files which we already test in core.
So instead of trying to fix it to make it pass with this PR, I simply removed it.
This PR adds a new option for `host_type`: `tag:TAGNAME` where `TAGNAME` is the tag field you defined for your ec2 instance.
For example if you defined a tag `my-elasticsearch-host` in ec2 and set it to `myhostname1.mydomain.com`, then
setting `host_type: tag:my-elasticsearch-host` will tell Discovery Ec2 plugin to read the host name from the
`my-elasticsearch-host` tag. In this case, it will be resolved to `myhostname1.mydomain.com`.

The cache is enabled by default and caches the 1000 most recent items.

This documents the `aws_availability_zone` node attribute as part of the `discovery-ec2` plugin. Also fixes outdated usage of "cloud aws".
Plugins: Remove pluggability of ZenPing
ZenPing is the part of zen discovery which knows how to ping nodes.
There is only one alternative implementation, which is just for testing.
This change removes the ability to add custom zen pings, and instead
hooks in the MockZenPing for tests through an overridden method in
MockNode. This also folds in the ZenPingService (which was really just a
single method) into ZenDiscovery, and removes the idea of having
multiple ZenPing instances. Finally, this was the last usage of the
ExtensionPoint classes, so that is also removed here.
Currently the default S3 buffer size is 100MB, which can be a lot for small
heaps. This pull request updates the default to be 100MB for heaps that are
greater than 2GB and 5% of the heap size otherwise.
Refactored ScriptType to clean up some of the variable and method names. Added more documentation. Deprecated the 'in' ParseField in favor of 'stored' to match the indexed scripts being replaced by stored scripts.
Lucene 6.3 is expected to be released in the next weeks so it'd be good to give
it some integration testing. I had to upgrade randomized-testing too so that
both Lucene and Elasticsearch are on the same version.

Currently, we check if a node has the same set of custom metadata as the master
before joining the cluster. This implies freshly installing a plugin that has its
custom metadata requires a full cluster restart.
update geoip to not include null-valued results from database
Originally, the plugin would still insert all the requested fields, but
assign null to each one. This fixes that by not writing the fields at
all. Makes for a better experience when the null fields conflict with
the typical geo_point field mapping.
This includes:
- All regular numeric types such as int, long, scaled-float, double, etc
- IP addresses
- Dates
- Geopoints and Geoshapes

Currently both `PUT` and `POST` can be used to create indices. This commit
removes support for `POST index_name` so that we can use it to index documents
with auto-generated ids once types are removed.

We have 1074 snippets that look like they should be converted to
`// CONSOLE`. At least that is what `gradle docs:listConsoleCandidates`
says. This adds `// NOTCONSOLE` to explicitly mark snippets that
*shouldn't* be converted to `// CONSOLE`. After marking the blindingly
obvious ones this cuts the remaining snippet count to 1032.
Adds `warnings` syntax to the yaml test that allows you to expect
a `Warning` header that looks like:

warnings:
- '[index] is deprecated'
- quotes are not required because yaml
- but this argument is always a list, never a single string
- no matter how many warnings you expect
get:

id: 1
```
These are accessible from the docs with:

This should help to force you to update the docs if you deprecate
something. You *must* add the warnings marker to the docs or the build
will fail. While you are there you *should* update the docs to add
deprecation warnings visible in the rendered results.
This change activates the doc_values on the _size field for indices created after 5.0.0-alpha4.
It also adds a note in the breaking changes that explain the situation and how to get around it.

Rename `fields` to `stored_fields` and add `docvalue_fields`
`stored_fields` parameter will no longer try to retrieve fields from the _source but will only return stored fields.
`fields` will throw an exception if the user uses it.
Add `docvalue_fields` as an adjunct to `fielddata_fields` which is deprecated. `docvalue_fields` will try to load the value from the docvalue and fallback to fielddata cache if docvalues are not enabled on that field.

As discussed at https://github.com/elastic/elasticsearch-cloud-azure/issues/91#issuecomment-229113595, we know that the current `discovery-azure` plugin only works with Azure Classic VMs / Services (which is somehow Legacy now).
The proposal here is to rename `discovery-azure` to `discovery-azure-classic` in case some users are using it.
And deprecate it for 5.0.

As some plugins are becoming big now, it is hard for the user to know, if the plugin
is being downloaded or just nothing happens.
This commit adds a progress bar during download, which can be disabled by using the `-q`
parameter.
In addition this updates to jimfs 1.1, which allows us to test the batch mode, as adding
security policies are now supported due to having jimfs:// protocol support in URL stream
handlers.
The discovery-plugin has been broken since 2.x because the code was not compliant with the security manager and because plugins have been refactored.

We weren't doing it before because we weren't starting the plugins.
Now we are.
The hardest part of this was handling the files the tests expect
to be on the filesystem. extraConfigFiles was broken.
The database files have been doubled in size compared to the previous files being used.
For this reason the database files are now gzip compressed, which required using
`GZIPInputStream` when loading database files.

This commit removes the ability to specify a custom plugins
path. Instead, the plugins path will always be a subdirectory called
"plugins" off of the home directory.
The syntax highlighter only supports [source,js].
Also adds a check to the rest test generator that runs during
the build that'll fail the build if it sees `[source,json]`.
Today when parsing settings during bootstrap, we add a system property
for every Elasticsearch setting. Additionally, settings can be set via
system properties. This commit simplifies this situation.
- settings are no longer propogated to system properties
- system properties can not be used to set settings
- the "es." prefix on settings is no longer required (nor permitted)
- test logging has a dedicated system property (tests.logger.level)

I initially wrongly put this setting under `cloud.aws.s3.` prefix which does not make sense. It should be placed at the same place as `max_retries`.
Also applied @tlrx comments. We should set this even if max_retries is not set (when using default values).
Also added some documentation about this setting.
The plugin script parses command-line options looking for Java system
properties and extracts these arguments to pass to the java command when
starting the JVM. Since elasticsearch-plugin allows arbitrary user
arguments to the JVM via ES_JAVA_OPTS, this parsing is unnecessary. This
commit removes this unnecessary

Lucene allows to create a ICUTokenizer with a special config argument
enabling the customization of the rule based iterator by providing
custom rules files.
This commit enable this feature. Users could provide a list of RBBI rule
files to ICU tokenizer.

CBOR is natively supported in Elasticsearch and allows for byte arrays.
This means, that by using CBOR the user can prevent base64 conversions
for the data being sent back and forth.
This PR adds support to extract data from a byte array in addition to
a string. This also required to add a ByteArrayValueSource class.
We can be better at checking `buffer_size` and `chunk_size` for S3 repositories.
For example, we know that:
* `buffer_size` should be more than `5mb`
* `chunk_size` should be no more than `5tb`
* `buffer_size` should be lower than `chunk_size`
Otherwise, setting `buffer_size` is useless.
For the record:
`chunk_size` is a Snapshot setting whatever the implementation is.
`buffer_size` is an S3 implementation setting.
Let say that you are snapshotting a 500mb file. If you set `chunk_size` to `200mb`, then Snapshot service will call S3 repository to snapshot 3 files with the following sizes:
* `200mb`
* `200mb`
* `100mb`
If you set `buffer_size` to `100mb` (AWS maximum size recommendation), the first file of `200mb` will be uploaded on S3 using the multipart feature in 2 chunks and the workflow is basically the following:
* create the multipart request and get back an `id` from AWS S3 platform
* upload part1: `100mb`
* upload part2: `100mb`
* "commit" the full upload using the `id`.
