* Convert RunTask to use testclusers, remove ClusterFormationTasks
This PR adds a new RunTask and a way for it to start a
testclusters cluster out of band and block on it to replace
the old RunTask that used ClusterFormationTasks.
With this we can now remove ClusterFormationTasks.
This is related to #31908. In order to use the external version in a
reindex from remote request, the search request must be configured to
request the version (as it is not returned by default). This commit
modifies the search request to request the version. Additionally, it
modifies our current reindex from remote tests to randomly use the
external version_type.
In the reindex from old tests we require Java 8. Today when configuring
the reindex from old tests, we eagerly evalulate Java 8 home, which
means that we require JAVA8_HOME to be set even if the reindex from old
test tasks are not in the task graph. This is an onerous requirement if,
for example, all that you want to do is build a distribution. This
commit addresses this by making evaluation of Java 8 home lazy, so that
it is only done and required if the reindex from old test tasks would be
executed.
ClusterFormationTasks auto configured these properties for clusters.
This PR adds FIPS specific configuration across all test clusters from
the main build script to prevent coupling betwwen testclusters and the
build plugin.

* Replace usages RandomizedTestingTask with built-in Gradle Test (#40978)
This commit replaces the existing RandomizedTestingTask and supporting code with Gradle's built-in JUnit support via the Test task type. Additionally, the previous workaround to disable all tasks named "test" and create new unit testing tasks named "unitTest" has been removed such that the "test" task now runs unit tests as per the normal Gradle Java plugin conventions.

Adds reindex.ssl.* settings for reindex from remote.
This uses the ssl-config/ internal library to parse and load SSL
configuration and files. This is applied when using the low level
rest client to connect to a remote ES node

This folds the `:qa:smoke-test-reindex-with-all-modules` project into
`:modules:reindex` by declaring the reindex's integration testing
cluster requires the `parent-join` and `lang-painless` plugins and then
moving all of the integration tests that depended on parent-join and
painless into reindex.
It saves us one cluster start up during the build at the cost of a
little of the reindex module's "purity". Since the reindex module *does*
have unit tests that test scripting without painless I'm fairly ok with
that.
We disable the reindex-from-old tests if we're running on windows or in
a directory that contains a space. This adds a warning to the logs when
we do that so that you can tell that it happened. This will be nice to
have when looking at CI and will be a hint to anyone developing locally.
This folds the `:qa:reindex-from-old` project into the `:modules:reindex`
project. This should speed up the build marginally by removing a single
clsuter start up at the cost of having to wait for old versions of
Elasticsearch to start up when checking reindex's integration tests.
Those don't take that long so this feels worth it.
Sometimes modules/plugins depend on locally built elasticsearch jars.
This means not only that the jar is constantly changing (so no need for
a sha check), but also that the license falls under the Elasticsearch
license, and there is no need to keep another copy. This commit updates
the dependencies checked by dependencyLicenses to exclude those that are
built by elasticsearch.
When a search is executing locally over many shards, we can stack
overflow during query phase execution. This happens due to callbacks
that occur after a phase completes for a shard and we move to the same
phase on another shard. If all the shards for the query are local to the
local node then we will never go async and these callbacks will end up
as recursive calls. With sufficiently many shards, this will end up as a
stack overflow. This commit addresses this by truncating the stack by
forking to another thread on the executor for the phase.

We were accidentally defaulting it to the scroll size.
Untwists some of the tricks that we play with parsing
so that the size is no longer scrambled.
Closes#26761
At current, we do not feel there is enough of a reason to shade the low
level rest client. It caused problems with commons logging and IDE's
during the brief time it was used. We did not know exactly how many
users will need this, and decided that leaving shading out until we
gather more information is best. Users can still shade the jar
themselves. For information and feeback, see issue #26366.

This reverts commit 2c271f0f22.
This reverts commit 9d10dbea39.
This reverts commit e816ef89a2.
This commit removes all external dependencies from the rest client jar
and shades them in an 'org.elasticsearch.client' package within the jar
using shadowJar gradle plugin. All projects that depended on the
existing jar have been converted to using the 'org.elasticsearch.client'
package prefixes to interact with the rest client.
Closes#25208
It was brought up that our current client artifacts have generic names like 'rest' that may cause conflicts with other artifacts.
This commit renames:
- rest -> elasticsearch-rest-client
- sniffer -> elasticsearch-rest-client-sniffer
- rest-high-level -> elasticsearch-rest-high-level-client
A couple of small changes are also preparing the high level client for its first release.

* Add parent-join module
This change adds a new module named `parent-join`.
The goal of this module is to provide a replacement for the `_parent` field but as a first step this change only moves the `has_child`, `has_parent` queries and the `children` aggregation to this module.
These queries and aggregations are no longer in core but they are deployed by default as a module.

Gradle's finalizedBy on tasks only ensures one task runs after another,
but not immediately after. This is problematic for our integration tests
since it allows multiple project's integ test clusters to be
simultaneously. While this has not been a problem thus far (gradle 2.13
happened to keep the finalizedBy tasks close enough that no clusters
were running in parallel), with gradle 3.3 the task graph generation has
changed, and numerous clusters may be running simultaneously, causing
memory pressure, and thus generally slower tests, or even failure if the
system has a limited amount of memory (eg in a vagrant host).
This commit reworks how integ tests are configured. It adds an
`integTestCluster` extension to gradle which is equivalent to the current
`integTest.cluster` and moves the rest test runner task to
`integTestRunner`. The `integTest` task is then just a dummy task,
which depends on the cluster runner task, as well as the cluster stop
task. This means running `integTest` in one project will both run the
rest tests, and shut down the cluster, before running `integTest` in
another project.
This commit adds a MessyRestTestPlugin to the gradle build. It extends
StandaloneRestTestPlugin. The main piece of functionality that it adds
is to copy plugin-metadata from dependencies into the
generated-resources for the current test source. This is necessary to
ensure that permissions for dependencies are applied when running the
tests.
A current limitation is that the permissions are applied differently
than in the distribution sources. When permissions are granted to all
depedencies for a module or plugin, the permissions are granted to all
dependencies on the classpath for tests besides a few hardcoded
exclusions:
- es core
- es test framework
- lucene test framework
- randomized runner
- junit library
We kept `netty_3` as a fallback in the 5.x series but now that master
is 6.0 we don't need this or in other words all issues coming up with
netty 4 will be blockers for 6.0.
This allows you to whitelist `localhost:*` or `127.0.10.*:9200`.
It explicitly checks for patterns like `*` in the whitelist and
refuses to start if the whitelist would match everything. Beyond
that the user is on their own designing a secure whitelist.
We disable transitive dependencies in our build plugin
for all dependencies except for the group `org.elasticsearch`.
However, in the reindex plugin we depend on the REST client
and declare its dependencies again which is not necessary
(and led to problems with conflicting versions in #19281).
With this PR we remove the duplicate declaration.
This commit renames the Netty 3 transport module from transport-netty to
transport-netty3. This is to make room for a Netty 4 transport module,
transport-netty4.
Relates #19439
This changes adds a flag which can be set in the esplugin closure in
build.gradle for plugins and modules which contain pieces that must be
published to maven, for use in the transport client. The jar/pom and
source/javadoc jars are moved to a new name that has the suffix
"-client".
I enabled this for the two modules that I know definitely need this;
there may be more. One open question is which groupId to use for the
generated pom.

Some tests still start http implicitly or miss configuring the transport clients correctly.
This commit fixes all remaining tests and adds a depdenceny to `transport-netty` from
`qa/smoke-test-http` and `modules/reindex` since they need an http server running on the nodes.
This also moves all required permissions for netty into it's module and out of core.
This adds a remote option to reindex that looks like
```
curl -POST 'localhost:9200/_reindex?pretty' -d'{
"source": {
"remote": {
"host": "http://otherhost:9200"
},
"index": "target",
"query": {
"match": {
"foo": "bar"
}
}
},
"dest": {
"index": "target"
}
}'
```
This reindex has all of the features of local reindex:
* Using queries to filter what is copied
* Retry on rejection
* Throttle/rethottle
The big advantage of this version is that it goes over the HTTP API
which can be made backwards compatible.
Some things are different:
The query field is sent directly to the other node rather than parsed
on the coordinating node. This should allow it to support constructs
that are invalid on the coordinating node but are valid on the target
node. Mostly, that means old syntax.
