deebloo 39c0152b76 feat(service-worker): expose `SwRegistrationOptions` token to allow runtime config (#21842)
Previously, the ServiceWorker registration options should be defined as
an object literal (in order for them to be compatible with Ahead-of-Time
compilation), thus making it impossible to base the ServiceWorker
behavior on runtime conditions.
This commit allows specifying the registration options using a regular
provider, which means that it can take advantage of the `useFactory`
option to determine the config at runtime, while still remaining
compatible with AoT compilation.

Alex Rickabaugh c61df39323 feat(router): deprecate loadChildren:string (#30073)
The proposed ES dynamic import() is now supported by the Angular CLI and the
larger toolchain. This renders the `loadChildren: string` API largely
redundant, as import() is far more natural, is less error-prone, and is
standards compliant. This commit deprecates the `string` form of
`loadChildren` in favor of dynamic import().

DEPRECATION:

When defining lazy-loaded route, Angular previously offered two options for
configuring the module to be loaded, both via the `loadChildren` parameter
of the route. Most Angular developers are familiar withthe `string` form of
this API. For example, the following route definition configures Angular to
load a `LazyModule` NgModule from `lazy-route/lazy.module.ts`:

```
[{
  path: 'lazy',
  loadChildren: 'lazy-route/lazy.module#LazyModule',
}]
```

This "magic string" configuration was previously necessary as there was
no dynamic module loading standard on the web. This has changed with the
pending standardization of dynamic `import()` expressions, which are now
supported in the Angular CLI and in web tooling in general. `import()`
offers a more natural and robust solution to dynamic module loading. The
above example can be rewritten to use dynamic `import()`:

```
[{
  path: 'lazy',
  loadChildren: () => import('./lazy-route/lazy.module').then(mod => mod.LazyModule),
}]
```

This form of lazy loading offers significant advantages in terms of:

* type checking via TypeScript
* simplicity of generated code
* future potential to run natively in supporting browsers
  (see: [caniuse: dynamic import()](https://caniuse.com/#feat=es6-module-dynamic-import))

As a result, Angular is deprecating the `loadChildren: string` syntax in
favor of ES dynamic `import()`. An automatic migration will run during
`ng upgrade` to convert your existing Angular code to the new syntax.

Jason Aden 4277600d5e feat(common): provide replacement for AngularJS $location service (#30055)
This commit provides a replacement for `$location`. The new service is written in Angular, and can be consumed into existing applications by using the downgraded version
of the provider.

Prior to this addition, applications upgrading from AngularJS to Angular could get into a situation where AngularJS wanted to control the URL, and would often parse or se
rialize the URL in a different way than Angular. Additionally, AngularJS was alerted to URL changes only through the `$digest` cycle. This provided a buggy feedback loop
from Angular to AngularJS.

With this new `LocationUpgradeProvider`, the `$location` methods and events are provided in Angular, and use Angular APIs to make updates to the URL. Additionally, change
s to the URL made by other parts of the Angular framework (such as the Router) will be listened for and will cause events to fire in AngularJS, but will no longer attempt
 to update the URL (since it was already updated by the Angular framework).

This centralizes URL reads and writes to Angular and should help provide an easier path to upgrading AngularJS applications to Angular.

Jason Aden b44b14368f feat(common): add ability to retrieve the state from Location service (#30055)
Previously there wasn't a way to retrieve `history.state` from the `Location` service. The only time the framework exposed this value was in navigation events. This meant if you weren't using the Angular router, there wasn't a way to get access to this `history.state` value other than going directly to the DOM.

This PR adds an API to retrieve the value of `history.state`. This will be useful and needed to provide a backwards-compatible `Location` service that can emulate AngularJS's `$location` service since we will need to be able to read the state data in order to produce AngularJS location transition events.

This feature will additionally be useful to any application that wants to access state data through Angular rather than going directly to the DOM APIs.

Kristiyan Kostadinov c7f1b0a97f fix(ivy): queries not being inherited from undecorated classes (#30015)
Fixes view and content queries not being inherited in Ivy, if the base class hasn't been annotated with an Angular decorator (e.g. `Component` or `Directive`).

Also reworks the way the `ngBaseDef` is created so that it is added at the same point as the queries, rather than inside of the `Input` and `Output` decorators.

This PR partially resolves FW-1275. Support for host bindings will be added in a follow-up, because this PR is somewhat large as it is.

Alan Agius 4bde40f7c2 fix(core): don't include a local `EventListener` in typings (#29809)
With dts bundles, `core.d.ts` will include an `EventListener` class as it's used in 303eae918d/packages/core/src/debug/debug_node.ts (L32)

This will conflict with the DOM EventListener, as anything in `core.d.ts` which is using the DOM EventListener will fallback in using the one defined in the same module and hence build will fail because their implementation is different.

With this change, we rename the local `EventListener` to `DebugEventListener`, the later one is non exported.

Olivier Combe 6a8cca7975 feat(ivy): use i18n locale data to determine the plural form of ICU expressions (#29249)
Plural ICU expressions depend on the locale (different languages have different plural forms). Until now the locale was hard coded as `en-US`.
For compatibility reasons, if you use ivy with AOT and bootstrap your app with `bootstrapModule` then the `LOCALE_ID` token will be set automatically for ivy, which is then used to get the correct plural form.
If you use JIT, you need to define the `LOCALE_ID` provider on the module that you bootstrap.
For `TestBed` you can use either `configureTestingModule` or `overrideProvider` to define that provider.
If you don't use the compat mode and start your app with `renderComponent` you need to call `ɵsetLocaleId` manually to define the `LOCALE_ID` before bootstrap. We expect this to change once we start adding the new i18n APIs, so don't rely on this function (there's a reason why it's a private export).

Olivier Combe 91c7b451d5 feat(ivy): support i18n without closure (#28689)
So far using runtime i18n with ivy meant that you needed to use Closure and `goog.getMsg` (or a polyfill). This PR changes the compiler to output both closure & non-closure code, while the unused option will be tree-shaken by minifiers.
This means that if you use the Angular CLI with ivy and load a translations file, you can use i18n and the application will not throw at runtime.
For now it will not translate your application, but at least you can try ivy without having to remove all of your i18n code and configuration.

Kristiyan Kostadinov def73a6728 perf(ivy): avoid storing raw selectors in projectionDef (#29578)
Currently in Ivy we pass both the raw and parsed selectors to the projectionDef instruction, because the parsed selectors are used to match most nodes, whereas the raw ones are used to match against nodes with the ngProjectAs attribute. The raw selectors add a fair bit of code that won't be used in most cases, because ngProjectAs is somewhat rare.

These changes rework the compiler not to output the raw selectors in the projectionDef, but to parse the selector in ngProjectAs and to store it on the TAttributes. The logic for matching has also been changed so that it matches the pre-parsed ngProjectAs selector against the list of projection selectors.

Matias Niemelä ec56354306 fix(ivy): ensure parent/sub-class components evaluate styling correctly (#29602)
The new styling algorithm in angular is designed to evaluate host
bindings stylinh priority in order of directive evaluation order. This,
however, does not work with respect to parent/sub-class directives
because sub-class host bindings are run after the parent host bindings
but still have priority. This patch ensures that the host styling bindings
for parent and sub-class components/directives are executed with respect
to the styling algorithm prioritization.

Pete Bacon Darwin 9f54d76ef5 refactor(upgrade): use Bazel packages to avoid symlinks in the source (#29466)
Previously we had to share code between upgrade/dynamic and upgrade/static
by symlinking the `src` folder, which allowed both packages to access
the upgrade/common files.

These symlinks are always problematic on Windows, where we had to run
a script to re-link them, and restore them.

This change uses Bazel packages to share the `upgrade/common` code,
which avoids the need for symlinking the `src` folder.

Also, the Windows specific scripts that fixup the symlinks have also
been removed as there is no more need for them.

Paul Gschwendtner 8badf9808a build: add pre-release check that validates the version name (#29551)
Currently with the release of "8.0.0-beta.10", the Bazel npm packag accidentally
was stamped with an incorrect version placeholder: `8.0.0-beta.10+1.sha-a28b3e3`.

This can happen because the placeholder is based on latest tag that matches the
Semver format. e.g. if `HEAD` equals to the commit that has the latest tag, the
version name will be correct and refer to the tag name (e.g. `8.0.0-beta.10`). Though
if the latest commit is not tagged with the most recent tag, the version
name will also include the SHA of the commit (e.g. `8.0.0-beta.10+1.sha-a28b3e3`).

We can ensure that we don't accidentally release versions from a more recent commit
that shouldn't be part of the release by adding a pre-release check that ensures that
the `BUILD_SCM_VERSION` Bazel status variable matches the expected version format.

Matias Niemelä 1877e6c3f8 fix(ivy): ensure template styles/classes are applied before directives are instantiated (#29269)
Angular Ivy interprets inline static style/class attribute values as instructions that
are processed whilst an element gets created. Because these inline style values are
referenced by style/class bindings, their inline style values are applied at a later
stage. Despite them being eventually applied, their values should be applied earlier
before any directives are instantiated so that directive code can rely on any inline
style/class changes.

This patch ensures that all static style/class attribute values are applied (rendered)
on the element before directives are instantiated.

Angular supports having a component extend off of a parent component.

data is merged and rendered accordingly.

Kara Erickson 19afb791b4 feat(core): allow users to define timing of ViewChild/ContentChild queries (#28810)
Prior to this commit, the timing of `ViewChild`/`ContentChild` query
resolution depended on the results of each query. If any results
for a particular query were nested inside embedded views (e.g.
*ngIfs), that query would be resolved after change detection ran.
Otherwise, the query would be resolved as soon as nodes were created.

This inconsistency in resolution timing had the potential to cause
confusion because query results would sometimes be available in
ngOnInit, but sometimes wouldn't be available until ngAfterContentInit
or ngAfterViewInit. Code depending on a query result could suddenly
stop working as soon as an *ngIf or an *ngFor was added to the template.

With this commit, users can dictate when they want a particular
`ViewChild` or `ContentChild` query to be resolved with the `static`
flag. For example, one can mark a particular query as `static: false`
to ensure change detection always runs before its results are set:

```ts
@ContentChild('foo', {static: false}) foo !: ElementRef;
```

This means that even if there isn't a query result wrapped in an
*ngIf or an *ngFor now, adding one to the template later won't change
the timing of the query resolution and potentially break your component.

Similarly, if you know that your query needs to be resolved earlier
(e.g. you need results in an ngOnInit hook), you can mark it as
`static: true`.

```ts
@ViewChild(TemplateRef, {static: true}) foo !: TemplateRef;
```

Note: this means that your component will not support *ngIf results.

If you do not supply a `static` option when creating your `ViewChild` or
`ContentChild` query, the default query resolution timing will kick in.

Note: This new option only applies to `ViewChild` and `ContentChild`
queries, not `ViewChildren` or `ContentChildren` queries, as those types
already resolve after CD runs.

George Kalpakas 6788d86709 build: fix `validate-commit-message` on Windows (#28780)
Previously, the `validate-commit-message` gulp task was using the
`git log ... ^r1 r2` syntax to list commits between the base branch and
the current head. This didn't work as expected on Windows, because `^`
is the escape character. As a result, the command was equivalent to
`git log ... r1 r2` on Windows, which essentially logs all commits
reachable from either `r1` or `r2`.

This commit fixes it by switching to git's
[double-dot range notation][1] (`r1..r2`), which is an alias for the
`^r1 r2` syntax and works correctly on all platforms.

Prior to this change we used current injector implementation for module injector, which was causing problems and produces circular dependencies in case the same token is referenced (with @SkipSelf flag) in the `deps` array. This commit adds a devMode-only check which will throw if a user
attempts to bind a property that does not match a directive
input or a known HTML property.

Example:
```
<div [unknownProp]="someValue"></div>
```

The above will throw because "unknownProp" is not a known
property of HTMLDivElement.

This check is similar to the check executed in View Engine during
template parsing, but occurs at runtime instead of compile-time.

Note: This change uncovered an existing bug with host binding
inheritance, so some Material tests had to be turned off. They
will be fixed in an upcoming PR.

In 7cb8396, we improved the symbol test to remove suffixes from

that checked for extra symbols depended on each symbol being unique.
If multiple symbols with the same name were added (e.g. pulled in

Alex Rickabaugh ac157170c8 feat(forms): export NumberValueAccessor & RangeValueAccessor directives (#27743)
@angular/forms declares several directives and a module which are not
exported from the package via the entrypoint, either intentionally or as a
historical accident.

Ivy's locality principle necessitates that directives used in user code be
importable from the package which defines them. This requires these forms
directives to be exported.

Several directives which define ControlValueAccessors are exported:

* NumberValueAccessor
* RangeValueAccessor

A few more directives and a module are exported privately (with a ɵ prefix):

* NgNoValidate
* NgSelectMultipleOption
* InternalFormsSharedModule

Miško Hevery e94975d109 fix(ivy): check semantics of NgModule for consistency (#27604)
`NgModule` requires that `Component`s/`Directive`s/`Pipe`s are listed in
declarations, and that each `Component`s/`Directive`s/`Pipe` is declared
in exactly one `NgModule`. This change adds runtime checks to ensure
that these sementics are true at runtime.

There will need to be seperate set of checks for the AoT path of the
codebase to verify that same set of semantics hold. Due to current
design there does not seem to be an easy way to share the two checks
because JIT deal with references where as AoT deals with AST nodes.

Jason Aden d70a7f3ac9 feat(router): add pathParamsOrQueryParamsChange mode for runGuardsAndResolvers (#27464)
This option means guards and resolvers will ignore changes to matrix parameters. Guards and resolvers will be rerun when the path changes, when path parameters change, or when query parameters change.

The primary use case for such a mode is when updating the UI and getting the URL to be in sync with local changes. For example, if displaying a sortable table, changing the sort direction is often handled by the table itself. But you would want to update the URL to be in sync with what's being displayed to the user. As long as the table sort direction is stored as a matrix parameter, you can use this option to update the URL without causing the overhead of re-running guards and resolvers.

Misko Hevery 39e426cde3 fix(ivy): TestBed.get(Compiler) throws "Error: Runtime compiler is not loaded" (#27223)
BREAKING CHANGE:

The public API for `DebugNode` was accidentally too broad. This change removes
1. Public constructor. Since `DebugNode` is a way for Angular to communicate information
   on to the developer there is no reason why the developer should ever need to
   Instantiate the `DebugNode`
2. We are also removing `removeChild`, `addChild`, `insertBefore`, and `insertChildAfter`.
   All of these methods are used by Angular to constructor the correct `DebugNode` tree.
   There is no reason why the developer should ever be constructing a `DebugNode` tree
   And these methods should have never been made public.
3. All properties have been change to `readonly` since `DebugNode` is used by Angular
   to communicate to developer and there is no reason why these APIs should be writable.

While technically breaking change we don’t expect anyone to be effected by this change.

Alex Rickabaugh 23b06af940 fix(core): export a value for InjectFlags (#27279)
A recent commit (probably 2c7386c) has changed the import graph of the
DI types in core, and somehow results in the ngc compiler deciding to
re-export core DI types from application factories which tangentially
use inject(). This is not really surprising; ngc's import graph can be
very unstable.

However, this results in a re-export of InjectFlags surviving JS
compilation. InjectFlags was a const enum, akin to an interface in TS,
with no runtime repesentation. This causes a warning to be emitted by
Webpack when it sees the re-export of InjectFlags.

This commit avoids the issue by removing 'const' from the declaration
of InjectFlags, causing it to have a runtime value. This is a temporary
fix. The real fix will be for ngc to no longer write exports of const
enums.

Testing strategy: manually verified. Due to the problem only manifesting
when recompiling after a change and then running Webpack, there is no
existing framework via which this could be easily tested with an
integration test. Additionally, the potential for this issue is gone in
Ivy, so this solution is only temporarily needed.

George Kalpakas 93837e9545 feat(upgrade): support downgrading multiple modules (#26217)
Currently, calling `downgradeModule()` more than once is not supported.
If one wants to downgrade multiple Angular modules, they can create a
"super-module" that imports all the rest and downgrade that.

This commit adds support for downgrading multiple Angular modules. If
multiple modules are downgraded, then one must explicitly specify the
downgraded module that each downgraded component or injectable belongs
to, when calling `downgradeComponent()` and `downgradeInjectable()`
respectively.

No modification is needed (i.e. there is no need to specify a module for
downgraded components and injectables), if an app is not using
`downgradeModule()` or if there is only one downgraded Angular module.

Igor Minar 4237c34c78 test(ivy): mark failing test targets with fixme-ivy-jit and fixme-ivy-local tags (#26471)
We are close enough to blacklist a few test targets, rather than whitelist targets to run...

Because bazel rules can be composed of other rules that don't inherit tags automatically,
I had to explicitly mark all of our ts_library and ng_module targes with "ivy-local" and
"ivy-jit" tags so that we can create a query that excludes all fixme- tagged targets even

This is the updated overview of ivy related bazel tags:

- ivy-only: target that builds or runs only under ivy
- fixme-ivy-jit: target that doesn't yet build or run under ivy with --compile=jit
- fixme-ivy-local: target that doesn't yet build or run under ivy with --compile=local

Vikram Subramanian d83f9d432a fix(common): register locale data for all equivalent closure locales (#25867)
This fix is for the issue below when compiling I18N Angular apps using closure.

For certain locales closure converts the input locale id to a different equivalent locale string. For example if the input locale is 'id'(for Indonesia) goog.LOCALE is set to 'in' and the closure locale data is registered only for 'in'. The Angular compiler uses the original input locale string, 'id' to set the LOCALE_ID token and there is a mismatch of locale used to register and locale used when requesting the locale data.

The fix is for the closure-locale.ts code to register the locale data for all equivalent locales names so that it doesn't matter what goog.LOCALE is actually set to.

Alex Rickabaugh 60aeee7abf feat(ivy): selector side of ModuleWithProviders via type metadata (#24862)
Within an @NgModule it's common to include in the imports a call to
a ModuleWithProviders function, for example RouterModule.forRoot().
The old ngc compiler was able to handle this pattern because it had
global knowledge of metadata of not only the input compilation unit
but also all dependencies.

The ngtsc compiler for Ivy doesn't have this knowledge, so the
pattern of ModuleWithProviders functions is more difficult. ngtsc
must be able to determine which module is imported via the function
in order to expand the selector scope and properly tree-shake
directives and pipes.

This commit implements a solution to this problem, by adding a type
parameter to ModuleWithProviders through which the actual module
type can be passed between compilation units.

The provider side isn't a problem because the imports are always
copied directly to the ngInjectorDef.

George Kalpakas ddb792da28 build: remove unnecessary `internal-angular` karma reporter (#24803)
The reporter was added in 87d56acda, with the purpose of fixing
source-map paths (which was apparently needed back then). Things have
moved around a lot since then and the custom reporter doesn't seem to be
necessary any more. By removing the reporter, we have one less thing to
worry about while upgrading karma; plus we get improvements in built-in
reporters for free.

Output with the custom reporter:
```
at someMethod (packages/core/.../some-file.ts:13:37)
```

Output with the built-in reporter:
```
George Kalpakas 00c110b055 build: upgrade jasmine (and related typings) to latest version (#19904)
With these changes, the types are a little stricter now and also not
compatible with Protractor's jasmine-like syntax. So, we have to also
use `@types/jasminewd2` for e2e tests (but not for non-e2e tests).
I also had to "augment" `@types/jasminewd2`, because the latest
typings from [DefinitelyTyped][1] do not reflect the fact that the
`jasminewd2` version (v2.1.0) currently used by Protractor supports
passing a `done` callback to a spec.
Alex Rickabaugh 69510acb20 test(ivy): symbol extractor should handle different compile options (#24677)
The js_expected_symbol_test implementation extracts symbols names
from a rollup iife bundle. Previously, it only handled the case
with a simple 'var bundle = ...;' statement.
Sometimes, rollup produces a more complex bundle, where the 'bundle'
variable is not the only top-level variable declared in the same
declaration statement. This commit patches the symbol exctractor
to support this more complex case.
Additionally, when the symbol test fails, it prints a command to
accept the symbol diff. This command needs to include the
--define=compile flag to ensure the diff is applied in the same
compile mode as the test was run.
Alex Rickabaugh 1eafd04eb3 build(ivy): support alternate compilation modes to enable Ivy testing (#24056)
Bazel has a restriction that a single output (eg. a compiled version of
//packages/common) can only be produced by a single rule. This precludes
the Angular repo from having multiple rules that build the same code. And
the complexity of having a single rule produce multiple outputs (eg. an
ngc-compiled version of //packages/common and an Ivy-enabled version) is
too high.
Additionally, the Angular repo has lots of existing tests which could be
executed as-is under Ivy. Such testing is very valuable, and it would be
nice to share not only the code, but the dependency graph / build config
as well.
Thus, this change introduces a --define flag 'compile' with three potential
values. When --define=compile=X is set, the entire build system runs in a
particular mode - the behavior of all existing targets is controlled by
the flag. This allows us to reuse our entire build structure for testing
in a variety of different manners. The flag has three possible settings:
* legacy (the default): the traditional View Engine (ngc) build
* local: runs the prototype ngtsc compiler, which does not rely on global
  analysis
* jit: runs ngtsc in a mode which executes tsickle, but excludes the
  Angular related transforms, which approximates the behavior of plain
  tsc. This allows the main packages such as common to be tested with
  the JIT compiler.
Additionally, the ivy_ng_module() rule still exists and runs ngc in a mode
where Ivy-compiled output is produced from global analysis information, as
a stopgap while ngtsc is being developed.
George Kalpakas 08325aaffc feat(service-worker): add support for configuring navigations URLs (#23339)
The ServiceWorker will redirect navigation requests that don't match any
`asset` or `data` group to the specified index file. The rules for a
request to be classified as a navigation request are as follows:
1. Its `mode` must be `navigation`.
2. It must accept a `text/html` response.
3. Its URL must match certain criteria (see below).
By default, a navigation request can have any URL except for:
1. URLs containing `__`.
2. URLs to files (i.e. containing a file extension in the last path
   segment).
While these rules are fine in many cases, sometimes it is desirable to
configure different rules for the URLs of navigation requests (e.g.
ignore specific URLs and pass them through to the server).
This commit adds support for specifying an optional `navigationUrls`
list in `ngsw-config.json`, which contains URLs or simple globs
(currently only recognizing `!`, `*` and `**`).
Only requests whose URLs match any of the positive URLs/patterns and
none of the negative ones (i.e. URLs/patterns starting with `!`) will be
considered navigation requests (and handled accordingly by the SW).
(This is an alternative implementation to #23025.)
Pete Bacon Darwin ac316be79b build: remove unnecessary stability check (#23176)
Previously, it was necessary to attach on of the three "stability"
jsdoc tags (`@stable`, `@deprecated` or `@experimental`) to each
public API export.
To ensure that the public API was correctly tagged, the `ts-api-guardian`
would check that one of these tags appeared on every public export.
Now the doc-gen is able to compute that a code item is stable if
it does not contain the `@experimental` nor `@deprecated` tags.
Therefore there is no need to provide the `@stable` tag any more; and
this tag has now been marked as deprecated - i.e. it should not be used.
The ts-api-guardian has been modified in this commit so that it no longer
warns/fails if the `@stable` is missing.
Alex Eagle 689f351092 build: expose flatModuleOutFile option on ng_module (#22814)
This lets projects like Material change ng_package "bundle index" files to non-conflicting paths
Currently packages like @angular/core ship with the generated metadata
in a path like 'core.js' which overwrites one of the inputs.
Angular material puts the generated file in a path like 'index.js'
Either way these files generated by ng_module rules have the potential
to collide with inputs given by the user, which results in an error.
Instead, give users the freedom to choose a different non-conflicting name.
Also this refactors the ng_package rule, removing the redundant
secondary_entry_points attribute.
Instead, we assume that any ng_module in the deps with a module_name
attribute is a secondary entry point.
Michael Giambalvo 37fedd001c feat(core): add task tracking to Testability (#16863)
Allow passing an optional timeout to Testability's whenStable(). If
specified, if Angular is not stable before the timeout is hit, the
done callback will be invoked with a list of pending macrotasks.
Also, allows an optional update callback, which will be invoked whenever
the set of pending macrotasks changes. If this callback returns true,
the timeout will be cancelled and the done callback will not be invoked.
If the optional parameters are not passed, whenStable() will work
as it did before, whether or not the task tracking zone spec is
available.
This change also migrates the Testability unit tests off the deprecated
AsyncTestCompleter.
Kara Erickson 8fb34bcd43 refactor(forms): deprecate ngModel usage on same field as formControl (#22633)
Support for using the `ngModel` input property and `ngModelChange`
event with reactive form directives has been deprecated in
Angular v6 and will be removed in Angular v7.
Now deprecated:
```html
<input [formControl]="control" [(ngModel)]="value">
```
```ts
this.value = 'some value';
```
This has been deprecated for a few reasons. First, developers have
found this pattern confusing. It seems like the actual `ngModel`
directive is being used, but in fact it's an input/output property
named `ngModel` on the reactive form directive that simply approximates
(some of) its behavior. Specifically, it allows getting/setting the
value and intercepting value events. However, some of `ngModel`'s other
features - like delaying updates with`ngModelOptions` or exporting the
directive - simply don't work, which has understandably caused some
confusion.
In addition, this pattern mixes template-driven and reactive forms
strategies, which we generally don't recommend because it doesn't take
advantage of the full benefits of either strategy. Setting the value in
the template violates the template-agnostic principles behind reactive
forms, whereas adding a FormControl/FormGroup layer in the class removes
the convenience of defining forms in the template.
To update your code before v7, you'll want to decide whether to stick
with reactive form directives (and get/set values using reactive forms
patterns) or switch over to template-driven directives.
After (choice 1 - use reactive forms):
```html
<input [formControl]="control">
```
```ts
this.control.setValue('some value');
```
After (choice 2 - use template-driven forms):
```html
<input [(ngModel)]="value">
```
```ts
this.value = 'some value';
```
You can also choose to silence this warning by providing a config for
`ReactiveFormsModule` at import time:
```ts
imports: [
  ReactiveFormsModule.withConfig({warnOnNgModelWithFormControl: 'never'});
]
```
Alternatively, you can choose to surface a separate warning for each
instance of this pattern with a config value of `"always"`. This may
help to track down where in the code the pattern is being used as the
code is being updated.
Note: `warnOnNgModelWithFormControl` is set up as deprecated so that it
can be removed in v7 when it is no longer needed. This will not display
properly in API docs yet because dgeni doesn't yet support deprecating
properties in object literals, but we have an open issue to resolve the
discrepancy here: https://github.com/angular/angular/issues/22640.
Alex Rickabaugh f755db78dc fix(core): require factory to be provided for shakeable InjectionToken (#22207)
InjectionToken can be created with an ngInjectableDef, and previously
this allowed the full expressiveness of @Injectable. However, this
requires a runtime reflection system in order to generate factories
from expressed provider declarations.
Instead, this change requires scoped InjectionTokens to provide the
factory directly (likely using inject() for the arguments), bypassing
the need for a reflection system.
Alex Rickabaugh 7ac34e42a0 feat: allow direct scoping of @Injectables to the root injector (#22185)
@Injectable() supports a scope parameter which specifies the target module.
However, it's still difficult to specify that a particular service belongs
in the root injector. A developer attempting to ensure that must either
also provide a module intended for placement in the root injector or target
a module known to already be in the root injector (e.g. BrowserModule).
Both of these strategies are cumbersome and brittle.
Instead, this commit adds a token APP_ROOT_SCOPE which provides a
straightforward way of targeting the root injector directly, without
requiring special knowledge of modules within it.
Alex Rickabaugh 235a235fab feat: change @Injectable() to support tree-shakeable tokens (#22005)
This commit bundles 3 important changes, with the goal of enabling tree-shaking
of services which are never injected. Ordinarily, this tree-shaking is prevented
by the existence of a hard dependency on the service by the module in which it
is declared.
Firstly, @Injectable() is modified to accept a 'scope' parameter, which points
to an @NgModule(). This reverses the dependency edge, permitting the module to
not depend on the service which it "provides".
Secondly, the runtime is modified to understand the new relationship created
above. When a module receives a request to inject a token, and cannot find that
token in its list of providers, it will then look at the token for a special
ngInjectableDef field which indicates which module the token is scoped to. If
that module happens to be in the injector, it will behave as if the token
itself was in the injector to begin with.
Thirdly, the compiler is modified to read the @Injectable() metadata and to
generate the special ngInjectableDef field as part of TS compilation, using the
PartialModules system.
Additionally, this commit adds several unit and integration tests of various
flavors to test this change.
